Default 2003 CA model owners - Car Tax question

Knowing that many of your "babies" are now turning 1 year old, I was wondering what kind of bill the California owners are getting to register their cars. I'm curious because I paid almost $400 to renew my 13 year old Z last year and am now expecting triple that amount in May thanks to "Ghey" Davis. I would expect the new Z to be WAY up there and before I run out and buy one, It would be nice to know ahead of time. Thx all.

I assume you mean $700 pre-Oct 1st? If I understand it right, that would go up to $2100! Hell, that's more than what my insurance would be. For some reason that doesn't sound right.

Yeah Arnold is in the house. However, even he said that it might take a year or two to appeal it. So until then, we gotta bite it.

Are you crazy? $700 post Oct-1 sounds more like it. $2100/yr registration, you better start walking.

VLF is 2% of the purchase price of your vehicle and depreciates on a yearly basis. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vlf/vlf_qa.htm

Thanks failsafe. I forgot about the DMV site. $700/yr sounds about right for a new one (2% of $35,000).

That Q&A gave me the actual code that I was able to look up. I still can't figure out why my tax was so high for my old Z. Lots of details here though about that law:
