I tried to get the driver side in after work real quick... That was a big failure... Scratched the **** out of the paint and came to the conclusion that I will need to get the steering shaft out of the way... At least its all cleaned up I guess.
I backed into the corner of a cement column at about 1 mph in my work parking garage. I put a thin 6" crease on the rear bumper. No damage to the paint. I might be able to get the crease out by removing the bumper cover, heating it with a heat gun set to low and going at it with a roller or a dolly until the plastic is flush again. Or I can just leave it to remind myself that the entire back end of that car is just one giant blind spot.
Or I can put a bumper sticker over it. Any suggestions?
Follow-up: The paintless dent repair guy told me that the crease was a keeper and there was some paint loss. The car's sitting in a body shop right now getting its rear bumper repaired and painted. They agreed to clean up some curb rash on my lower front bumper for an extra $50 since the tri-coat was going to be mixed anyway. Moral of the story: avoid backing into cement columns and save $550.
Not knowing my own strength my bolt snapped after overturning. I was able to insert a bolt extractor into the core of the stripped bolt that was still in the Stillen radiator core brace support bar, it's now stuck. Any suggestions for basic hand tools? Whew, thank god I can't find this car part anymore. That's a relief. lol.
Looks sweet man! What skirts are you using? I'm having a hell of a time finding a suitable replica for Nismo skirts. I was able to source OEM Nismo Rear Spats from a junkyard car, but skirts are impossible and Shine is gonna be over $300 after shipping....

This is a full Shineauto kit. I got it as a FRP but, I wish I spent a few $100 more and got the carbonfiber. This way I would have left it unpainted.
It's well worth the money. Great quality and fit. It is very durable as well. I've hit a few parking curbs...

Everything worked out perfecet. The volume is almost at the loud end of the scale. Super happy with the results sound wise. The new HU really woke up the Bose speakers.
Fitment wise however... Absolute horse sh**...
I googled a ton before deciding on which trim kit to get and after deciding American International got the most praise I got one of those. The finish, form and function of the facia is excellent, but the fitment around the head unit leaves ALOT to be desired. I have about a 1mm gap around the whole screen, all sides.
Also the fitment of the HU in the mounting brackets was f*ing waaaay off. The AI kit brackets were just stupid and didn't work even after I modified them so I used the OEM brackets and had to redrill all of the mounting holes.
I made sure to get 06-08 trim kits and mounting kits but seriously... it's like a blind drunk guessed where the holes should go...
It took me 2 hours to get the fitment acceptable, it's still a little off but it's good enough that you won't really notice it unless you thoroughly inspect everything.
I have yet to figure out where to mount the microphone and GPS antenna.
That dash kit looks way better than the scosche kit I got. Anyone know if the '06-08 will work in a '03?
How aggravating was it and would need to be removed to get them in?
And it was very aggravating. Had to remove the steering joint... PITA
and the hard coolant line on the passenger side...
The oem manifold bolts are all pretty much accessible with various combinations of deep sockets, short sockets, swivals, extransions... Wasn't that bad...
Getting the new ones on was a long and horrible process... One of the nuts I had to tighten with my gearwrench 14mm literally 1 click at a time, and had to hold the bottom to achieve that click.
I did use a torque wrench on probably 8 of the 12 nuts the rest got tightened as tight as I possibly could get them... I surely hope they dont leak...
I have about half a fingers clearance around the steering joint... Hopefully the sloppy engine mounts dont have much play. (Think it will be fine)
Steering seems to have lined back up with my marks, wish I had gotten a new joint but it cleaned up well.
All and all it pretty much really sucked really really bad... Glad its done
Oil change completed (synthetic conversion) and magnetic plug installed. Serious detailing underneath as well, my first opportunity having the car on ramps with some hours to get it done. Inspected "from the bottom" front-to-back...looking damn good. Stopped by a neighbors garage on my way home from a heat-run...he was dusting off his tricked-out 34' Ford coupe and detailing it for a show next weekend...good time (his wife likes my Z ).
