I just held a licence plate up to the opening. It is a perfect fit. Because the black of the grill is further forward in the middle vs. the top and bottom. So the rounded edges of the top and bottom, above and below the grill allow for the plate to fit perfectly.

Cool

Do you think it will fit with a frame around it or will it have to be mounted without a frame

You could probably do a frame also, it just might not be touching the black plastic of the grille (it would be sticking out just a little) just touching at the top and bottom of the grille surround.

Yes..that would probably work..looks like the grill opening is flared outward so making a bracket that extends outward an inch or two might just work..would probably also be better for air circulation...I'm working on it but wish I had my Z...it would make it a lot easier...can anyone give me the vertical measurement of the grill opening at it's widest point in the center, and also the distance from the tow hook recepticle to the front of the grill opening?(pardon my spelling)

Hey Pat, I'm proud of you! Doing a little Photochopping I see! Must be hard working on that front grill with Spanky "monkeying" around you though huh?

How much air flow to the radiator do you all think would be blocked by mounting the plate in the grill? If the only flow to the radiator is a small area in the center of the grill, then mounting the plate there might not be desirable. Could anyone who has the car take a quick look? Thanks.
