Default 240w Bose Questions

I've defended Bose on the other forum as I have a nice system in my house and my daughter's Acura sounds quite good to me. But I'm starting to see bad things about the Z system from owner's. Can you state what you don't like about it and should the "average" listener be concerned. If the real audiophile used to a 1,000 watt system doesn't like it I can understand but what about a us "normal" ...well almost people.

Default The 240W is no clairon

I received at Touring with the 240W Bose. It sounds better that my old car which has an Alpine stereo (albeit an older one). The average listener will think this stereo rocks. If somebody thinks the Bose sucks, they have been smoking too much crack and need to go test drive a Kia to see what a crappy stereo sounds like.

I think the same people that arent happy with wth interior also think the system sucks.

But I have heard it and it sounds good.

I have a $7500 car system now so I do have a taste for sound.

(FYI Im selling all this stuff and it works and is in good shape) I'm done with doing sound systems in cars a matter of fact I gotta go to a stereo shop this weekend to take all this stuff out for my trade in. I personally think big sound systems are cool at 20 yrs old but 30 yrs old is different. Thats why I went with the Bose upgrade.

My current setup includes:

(4) 61/2 mb quart
Alpine EQ
Alpine Head Unit

Crossover

400 watt Precision Power Amp
600 watt Precision Power Amp

JL audio "10" in a custom box.

I haven't taken delivery of my car. It will have the Bose. I'm sure it will be great. I also don't know where the people bashing it are coming from nor their taste in music.

I've owned Bose home speakers for more than 25 years. Their products are very good; arguably comparable to the best.

No, I don't have a 1000 watt system. What I currently have at home is 25 watts of PURE, CLEAN power.

The auto copmpensate function seems to be a sore spot for a few - I've E:mailed Bose to see if it can be disabled and 'will reply when I hear back.

I got the touring package and let me tell you the stereo is really good. Clean sound, no overpowering bass. I have noticed the auto functionality, little annoying at lower levels, as the it doesnt seen to lower the subwoofer power as much as the other speakers, giving you a lot of bass and not much treble. Besides that, really nice sounding system.

Hey, now, that's a false dichotomy. Not all of us that don't like Bose are rap-fiending bumpers with 1000W systems. I personally hate the majority of rap with a passion.

To be fair, I haven't heard the Z Bose system. I have only heard them in other cars. The closest I got to the Z was the 2002 Altima system I listened to before deciding to not get the Bose upgrade.

Here's what I don't like about all Bose systems I've heard: muddy midbass. And so far, that's been the #1 complaint by people with the Z too.

Unlike ABYSS, I'm not planning on a $7000 system, I don't have the cash. Instead, I decided that I'm taking the $3000 difference between Performance and Touring and using it to buy a stereo, since I like the cloth seats anyways. I'm fairly confident a custom-built $3000 system will kick the pants off the Bose. I'll let you know how it works out.

nizl,

The 1000 watt remark was in reference to BILL T's statement of audiophile's being used to 1000 watt systems. On the contrary, most audiophiles I know don't have 1000 watt sysytems.

I'd put up my 25 watt Art Audio Jota against any 1000 watt system you can find on the market.

Ok, I agree with that. I mean, 100W is LOUD. I have a 50W Mesa/Boogie tube amp for my guitar that is loud enough to kill small animals.

Some of it does have to do with efficiency, though. Some subs out there are extremely INefficient due to their huge magnets, so you need 500W to get out of them what 250W may get out of another sub.

Plus, people forget that you just generally need more power for lower frequencies because you have to move all that air. 500W to a sub is not uncommon, but 500W to a tweater would probably deafen all dogs in a 20 mile radius.

Default bose is not all that

I have the bose in my maxima. It sucks ***! Im with Nate here. The price of an upgrade to the performance is what is in order. Your ears will be happy. The Z is too nice of a ride to have inferior sounds in.

Thumbs down

I haven't heard the Z's Bose system, but if it's anything like their other auto and home systems, I'll pass. Aside from the crappy sound, their integrated approach is annoying. You can't just upgrade a portion of the system, you pretty much have to start from scratch.

I was interested in Bose for my home theater system before I was enlightened by several high end audio salesmen. I'll never forget a slogal I heard: "No highs, no lows, must be Bose."

Here's a suggestion if the auto- compensate function is over doing it. There should be a wire running from the ECU to the radio for control of this compensation. Locating it probably requires a schematic from the FSM. Most likely, this is an analog voltage that varies with vehicle speed. Wire in a potentiometer (variable resistor with mechanical tuning) and adjust it until the compensation is mild enough for your tastes.
Please keep us updated! If it is a problem (I don't have my car yet) I will want to adjust it or disable it.

I plan a subwoofer upgrade only, a RF Punch HX2 10" with a power 400a4 pushing it (dual voice coil sub, 200 watts per voice coil) assuming this sub will fit in the stock location without modification of the factory look of the grill. I've done subwoofer only upgrades in plenty of factory setups for myself and friends and its amazing what a good quality sub will do to improve the factory sound. The only problem is going to be wiring it into the stock setup. I'm hoping I can run a speaker level - line level converter (speaker wire in, RCA jacks out) off the factory sub leads and be done with it but I guess I will find out soon enough. If anyone out there has any info that might pretain to this let me know, I would greatly appreciate any help. I'll keep everyone posted on my findings as well.

I can't wait to get this car! I don't think I've ever been this obsessed with anything before in my life! My car is on the dealer inventory list and it makes me want to SCREAM! Okay, I feel better now.
Thanks!

In my I35 with the Bose system, you can disable the auto volume. The Bose is nothing special, but not horrible either. Given the choice, I would spend the money on an aftermarket system.

Internet Abyss-If that is a 7,500 setup then you got robbed! I just sold my 2001 Firebird with a 7,000 set up and it has 3 10 inch eclipse aluminums, 1-1001dx XTANT 2 channel and 1 1001dx 4 channel amp, 1 pair of Mb quart 6x9's , 1 pair 6.5's Mb quart, and the component Mb quart's (All premium line PSC's), 600 dollar eclipse head unit with a 8 volt preout, 200 amp alternator, and 1100 cca Stinger gel cell battery. This 7,000 also included 14 street glow mini neons and a crazy custom install with 4 plexiglass windows exposing the Mb quart crossovers and Xtant amps.

But, I agree with you about outgrowing it all. I believe the 240 watt Bose stereo will be fine for me even though I have heard the best already.
