How Many Were Ordered?
Does anyone have any info on how many Z cars are ordered To date??
The number I heard at the dealership where I ordered mine was 4000, but that doesn't sound like many does it?
Just wondering

I'm very curious about this too. I'm wondering how well Nissan predicted the amount of pre-order support they would receive. Have we far exceeded their expectations? About what they figured? Haven't met them yet?
When I was at NNA last Friday, I asked one of the employees how the pre-order program was going. He said it was going outstanding. He mentioned 7000 pre-orders. This is a number I had heard months before, I think as their goal, or maybe as just the number of pre-orders that would be available. I also don't know how close this particular person is to the program, and if he really knows if they have done 'outstanding' or not.

I checked the SF Chronicle auto section ads fairly regularly for the past few months. Only one dealer even mentioned the 350Z order program and he only ran the ad a few times. If they were shooting for higher numbers,Nissan could have advertised more.
Good point. The pre-order program must have at least met their expectations, or they could've easily increased it with just a itty-itty bit of advertising.
When I ordered mine at end of March, only (1) dealer I contacted in my area had already sold all his allocation. Every other dealer I called (about 10 total) had cars available, just varying prices (MSRP and up).

If I'm not mistaken, I understand there to be approximately 7,000 pre-orders, nationwide. Again, this is hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt. However, this seems to be a good estimate considering the exclusivity and limited spaces for orders...

There were 300 pre-orders available for all of Canada. As of three weeks ago, 288 of those were taken, but the actual sales figures of the car is Canada are well over 500 (maybe even closer to 1000) to date. There may be some pre-orders available in some small cities, but cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, etc, are sold out until well into next year.
Im in Minnesota and I think there is 4 Nissan Dealers in the Metro area. I talked to one dealer that told me he was getting 6 Slots to fill. They were all filled up by march. Nissan gave him 3 More slots About two weeks ago. Im not sure if he has filled them yet but Im sure he will. There is only two of the four dealers In minneapolis that are selling the Z at msrp. The other two told me $5-8k over. Last I heard there was only 22 That will be coming into Minneapolis through the preorder.
My numbers came from a conference call with the V.P. of Nissan Canada. This was close to a month ago though and it is possible that Nissan Canada was given more pre-order slots since then.

where did that quote come from? i don't remember seeing that!
it's odd how many people are on the second allocation - and how many of the pre-orders are still available...all i can say is that i'm happy i'm in the first.

my understanding is the dealers that got additional allocations got them because nissan took them away from dealers that weren't playing by the rules. Many of those in 2nd allocations would have been moved up. And dealers that are selling for a true 2nd allocation, arent really doing that, because as has been posted by ZISME and other nissan sources, there is only one pre-order and thats it. These people may have a place in line, but not to their specs.
I hadn't heard the order deadline was extended?
this would indicate orders were slower than hoped
2003Z- you lost me explaining the 2nd allocation.
Thanks everyone for all the good information!

There is no 2nd allocation.
All additional slots that dealers were given were for the 1st allocation, taken away from dealers that weren't selling or playing by the rules, or slots that were initially held back by Nissan to distribute as needed.
If a dealer took an order for a 2nd allocation, especially before Nissan increased some dealers allocations, it was not a true pre-order. After this pre-order, which I believe ended June 1st., there is no more odering to your specifications. You may have a place in line, but its take it as it comes or leave it.
