personally its one of the hardest stick shift cars to drive mainly because the engagement point of the clutch is alot higher than other MT cars
but once you get the hang of its high engagement point you should be finee

i am so use to the high engagement point that i stall when driving my friends car since his engagement point is so much lower

it took me like 2 days to get completely used to my car, its also my first manual car, its easy, the clutch doesn't catch till the end, like when its almost all the way up. that's on a bone stock Z anyway.

My 350z was my first car to learn stick in. Yes I'm crazy. But yea the 350z is easy to learn with. They made it so that middle aged men in their mid life crisis won't stall as much. I'm only joking. But yea don't be scared of the Z. Tame the beast! Best of Luck.

I've only had MT cars... and it's easy to drive, but hard for me to drive smooth. Maybe I just suck at driving MT (I doubt, cuz I've had 6 others lol) but I rarely get a smooth shift unless I'm WOT lol

Default jumping short gears

shift points long? don't you mean narrow? iow, every higher gear is only about 500rpm over lower, except for OD/6.
key is to jump 1 3 5, 2 4 5/6 depending.

a 4s will be longer, 6s {5.1} is narrow so that one can always downshift into 2k launch base entry area of max torque range 2k-4k.

for me, the difficult part is to get used to the linear wire gas mode; at light in fast traffic need to depress further to get into 1K and up to get going quickly than in regular exponential pedal where a slight tap boosts rpm's up past 1K. a smooth clutch release with pedal mash works just right after contact.

for murderous (relatively) acceleration i'll do
1-->3k, 2-->5k, 3-->6k, then 5 to jail.
moderate trot will allow flip into 2, then 4 and finally 6 at 50.
sequencing 1,2,3,4,5,6 is just for exercise in traffic.

site has write-up on lowering clutch pedal if needed.

i just read A LOT and watched tutorials on youtube before learning to drive stick and when one of my friends finally bought one he taught me. i only stalled once, strangely enough on my third start. unfortunately i dont own a z yet, but i'll definitely get the 6mt when the time comes. worst case scenario i burn out the clutch (doubt it though) and buy a performance clutch..

Just a little bit of patience, practice and dedication and you will do fine~ My Z was also my 1st manual and it took me about 2-3 days to get the hang of it~ Clutch point like many have said is higher (near the end almost) but it's not hard to drive. Have fun

my 95 subaru legacy shifting is looser than a moist 60 year old ***** on a hot summer day. I let everyone learn on that thing lol. Wont let you go drive one single block in the Z though.

The first time I tried reversing in a Z I stalled it. I totally forgot it was a 6 speed!

Z clutch isn't cheap.

People usually learn on trucks and compact cars. Performance cars like these act different - they're not forgiving. There's one sweet spot, and you gotta learn it. Miss it and be doomed to lurch around town.

Make sure you literally slip your foot off the clutch too so you slam that pressure plate, then womp the throttle.

TCS needs to be off too or the car won't run

Jerking the wheel violently in either direction usually smooths out the start.

I find it harder than my last car to shift smoothly in normal/slow city type driving (2nd gear in particular). But accelerating quickly and shifting at high rpms its as smooth as butter

But you should be fine once you learn on it.

make sure you start in 3rd gear and dump the clutch at about 5500rpm.......this is the best way to learn everyone does it..... oh and make sure your e-brake is engaged
