yes touring is the only one with factory leather seats...

The seats weigh more so they didnt want that in the track model. Also the Touring is more of luxory package over the performance model. While the TRACK has added things for the track over the performance model (like brembos)..

cost was also a factor, theres more than leather in those seats, their also power and heated. put everything in the same model and suddenly mags start quoting that price and everyone thinks its a 40,000$ car.

they already do, the Z is ussually a "mid 30,000" car not a mid 20's, even tho you can have one for both prices.

If you want leather but don't want to pay for the touring check out this site. http://www.ztoyz.net/350Zproductsmain.htm

When I get my Enthusiasts it's one of the first mods I plan on putting in. Every car I've ever had has been leather I don't think I could go back to cloth.

You can also get "Nissan Approved" letter added to any model. It is only available through a dealer..

But not from the factory, yours are dealer installed, for that matter you could say the base model has leather as an option.

The point is that the cars when they come off the boat in the US from Japan only the Touring Model has leather. You can have leather installed on any of the other models after that.

I believe the reason cloth is on the track is because the leather is too slippery and cloth offers better grip.

As a side note and not to hijack the thread, but has anyone with leather seats noticed their stitches on the drivers door side of the drivers seat starting to fray? Right where the back part of the seat and the flat part of the seat meet, the stiches on the outer edge seam.

My threads are starting to fray. I think it has to do with the fact that I usually slide into my seat when getting into the car because the car is relatively low.

This happening to anyone else with leather?

I usuallt fall into the seat rather than slide. My seats are like day one.

I personally think the "cloth" is very nice in the Z. I love it.

Also, personally, I would not want leather (not that I don't think it is nice). I would get mad when it started to wear down, and like others have mentioned, you stick to the cloth better around turns.

I do enjoy the look and feel of the cloth seats and was quite certain I didn't want leather. My mood has changed since I originally picked up my Z. I find the leather seats to be more comfortable and I like the look of them. The issue of grip does come into question. But if you go to the site mentioned above, they do have a suede option for the leather seats. Not only would it look great and feel great, but the issue with the seats grip would be nullified. That's just my opinion. I think this is in the near future for me. Suede that is.

Yes suede is a nice option.

As far as leather wearing down my celica is four years old now and the seats look like new. Why? I'm careful with them I guess but also leather softener is very important to use on leather seats. Keeps the seats from chipping, flaking, and the color from fading.

Leather can last as long as cloth it just requires a bit more care.

Forget the factory nav go with an in car pc. Get a voice activated/touch screen nav system, music, and DVD. All for a lot cheaper then the custom nav system.
