Hey I have a dilemma... I live in upstate NY on an acre of land and parked the Z for the winter. The other day I went in it to get something and it smelled a bit funky.
I smelled around and thought it was the mat so I took it out. About a week later I went in it again and it smelled a lot worse. I popped the hood and there was a cracked nut or something on top of my engine!
I'm flipping out bc I know how pesky these bastards can be.

I went out and bought 4 glue traps and 2 snap traps. In addition, I bought a machine that makes sounds that apparently rodents don’t like... I baited and placed the suckers under the hood and inside the Z. When I checked the traps the next day all the food was gone and there was no furry bastards!

I'm thinking they are mice because the droppings are tiny but we also have chipmunks and squirrels.

If anyone has any tips for such a situation, that would be great.

you might try mothballs i hear that they help keep the critters out.

 

Ha! I once had a possum decide one night to make house in the engine of an old ford wagon I once had, and had wrapped itself around my serpentine belt. Next morning I get in the car, turn the egnition on, and splat! Bits of possum everywhere. I know this is of no help to you, but good luck anywhoos.

Dude, that happened to me last fall with a CAT. I guess when I parked the car at home while I quickly ran in to get my gym bag, the engine bay was nice and warm, so the cat found a warm home around the serpentine belt, and sure enough, car starts and SPLAT

 

Try inspecting the whole car to see if you can find a nest. I remember finding a nest where my air filter was located. Mice are trouble. They'll bite through wires and such if continued to live.

i just checked the traps i set and the sticky traps are trash. the mice ate the food and didnt get stuck but i killed 2 bastard mice in snap traps. I hate mice... fml

 

+1 on the mothballs.It works, however mothballs don't smell so good, but they don't chew on your wiring harness and seats either...

Correct. Squarills and other animals love to destroy electrical wiring. I assume that they use the pieces to build nests.

 

Yeah, dunno what the he}} mice and rats do with the wiring, found several nest in my sons 240 but no electrical stuff in the nest............but the wiring was

 

Just buy a snake. Voila, no more mouse problem.

Re. using mothballs and the smell, maybe try setting up a perimeter of mothballs around your Z. That might keep them from even approaching your car.

 

I'm not sure if it's possible for mice to get into your air vents, but you might want to check your A/C blower for any dead rodents.
