Default Z in the winter/snow...

This will be my first winter with the Z. It's my only car, and buying a beater is not an option. I plan to get snows (lm-22's?) on stock 17's w/ 235/50/17 rear, 225/50/17 front. Is that the correct size?

Also, how the hell do you keep your car remotely clean with snow/salt kicking up? There's a place with handwashed car wash near me, but I'm trying to think of ways I can maintain the paint and such myself. I just waxed it about 2 weeks ago with meguiars show car #7 and blackfire on top of that.

Any other tips to keep my car from getting destroyed?

Pressure-spray it (underneath too) after everytime you drive in salt water.
You can't keep it clean, but this will help from excess moistrue carrying dirt build up.

I dunno if washing your car often (especially hand washed) will be a good idea. Imagine all the loose sand rubbing against your paint. High-pressure touch-less carwash is what I would do.

For $1500, you can get yourself a decent accord for the winter, you can always drive the Z when it's dry out. You can always sell your beater for as much as you bought it for.
Good luck. I am stuck with a Probe this winter

Thoase are the correct tire sizes...I'm in the same boat as you are when it comes to wintertime driving. Being that my Z is black, I'm going to have a heckuva time trying to keep it clean. There's a touchless car wash near my home that does a great job, so I'll probably be visiting them pretty frequently. Plus I'm going to give it one more wax job before the snow hits.

One product I'm thinking of buying is a SnowBrum...they sell then in the herrington catalog and some other places. It's a telescoping snow-brush type thing padded with soft rubber, so that it doesn't scratch the paint.

You mean like one of those things you fill with water, then pump, then spray? Just straight water? We don't have any touch-less car washed around here that I know of (central jersey).

I really can't get a beater, unfrotunately. Here's my rationale: snow tires/rims: $1000-1200

Beater: 1500
Insurance on the beater: 750
Repairs on the car so it runs safely: ????

the last part is what gets me to not do it. Anything remotely bad happens to the car and I'm done for. Really would prefer to use this car...

Pressure wash
You can use either touch-less or DIY stations, I know you got some over there, those coin operated wash station with high pressure guns. Drive around your local ghetto, you'll find one

Beater = $1500
Insurance = $liability only, won't be that expansive, plus you will get multi-car discount, you might end up paying the same amount of insurance. I pay less for 2 cars than only the Z.
Safe to drive? Yes, old Hondas or Toyotos are indestructable.

I know they're tanks, I just meant that say the transmission goes or something like that....then I have to plunk down money to fix it, or just cut my losses and dump the beater.

Funny you say that...I just saw a "wash your own" down the street from where I work Didn't realize it was what you were talking about. How do those work, does just plain water come out, or are there suds too?

Yeah they have suds too

$1.50 for 8 minutes is what it is here at Miami U. They have special soap for the tires too....but if you ask me it just looks like a *lot* more of the regular soap! The ones around here also have a *spot free* rinse but I always still get water spots....so the best thing usually is to take a towel with you to dry off the car afterwards! But remember not to dry it of in the car wash bay, because the rules prohibit it hahahh....yeah.....right....

Here comes winter I can't wait....gotta get my quarters ready for the car wash

Yep, that is exactly what I am talking about....You is a superstar with your Z, why are you still up in the hood?

Anyways, yeah, pressure wash is good, but DO NOT USE THOSES BRUSH!!! They are dirty and are best applied to beaters, not Zs.

There is a touchless DIY place in Hackensack. I am not sure how far that is from your location. I got there. I just use the high pressure water spray. I bring my own bucket of soap and water. They've kicked me out of that place twice because I take so much time. So now I go there at like 11pm at night.
