Default rearview CAMERA

I'm looking to add a rearview camera to my Nav system and place it into one of the A/V inputs. Where would the camera actually be placed? I want to use it for help when backing up and also to have an extra "eye" when driving. Any model recommendations? Of course I realize, nothing is better than looking back yourself, but it'd be nice to have a camera to aid in safety.

nah. i don't need help in parking, but it'd be good to make extra sure I don't back into people, especially with the slope of the dome...blind spots are easy to come by. my nav comes camera input capable, so i'm guessing a bunch of people have it or else they wouldn't even integrate it. It's a nice feature that I'd like to have, for my own reasons. I saw something in Import 2NR where a guy installed 3 night-vision cameras and a bunch of other a/v stuff. He's going the extreme. I just want one. I know its possible, anyone out there know anything?

Are we talking the stock Nav screen can accept a camera? I didn't know that. I would put a cam up front with a hefty zoom on it so I can spot things way out in front of me.......Like cops LOL

No, the stock nav does not have any composite video inputs. In fact is uses RGB inputs to the screen.

What you need to have a camera work with the stock nav is a video switch that can take several RGB and composite inputs and output RGB. If you want, I can post the diagrams from the service manual.

Then you could charge a relay from the reverse lights to automatically view the rear view camera when in reverse. I'd probably just put a switch on the console so I could change views myself.

See www.NavTV.com and other companies that can supply these kits.

do a search on this forum for the rear view camera. Skidazzle, for one, has had this done as well as a couple of others.

Rear View Camera thread Here's a shot of mine. After much debate, this was the best location.

I paid $70 for it on Ebay and its a 400 line color, NTSC, enclosed weatehrproof model. It works great !
