350 z the poor mans porsche???????
...always make fun of the other guy.
I owned a few Porsches from 356s on up to the water cooled flat sixes, yes Boxsters. The Boxster is a great driver and has great feedback to the driver.....BUT my engine failed at 62K miles, not a happy day.
Prior to the '04 I had an '02 whose engine also failed, but was replaced under warranty.
I've read of NO failures of the HR motor in my '08 Z, so I got one.
My assesment is 85-90% of performance overall at 50% of the price.
Great value, nice car, and it looks very, shall we say, tough.
I don't need to knock other drivers or owners to make mself feel good. I'm a 68 year old car guy that appreciates good sports cars and hot rods. I like them all. No need to be nasty.

i dont think its a poor mans porsche. Personally i hate those froggy looking cars. You spend have the money it costs to buy a porsche on 350z mods and purchase and make it better than a porsche in every way.
As far as the Z31 being a "poor man's Corvette," I guess I could see that.. Except for the fact that some Z31's were very expensive in their day. For example, my 1986 300zx N/A 2+2, GLL package (the car with the most factory options of any production car in history at that point) was over $25,000 new. That translates to a $50,000+ car in today's money. I used to have the window sticker, but it went with the car when I sold it. If you got a Z31 with the right trim package/color combo/options, it was a much nicer overall car than a Corvette of the same period.. albeit much slower in N/A form. The Z31's of that era were luxurious cars. Too luxurious for many.
If the Z32 300zx was a poor man's anything, it was a poor man's Ferrari. You could spend over $43,000 on a T-roof TT 300zx in 1995. That was pretty big chicken. The turbo Supra was a bit more expensive at the same time, but they were direct competitors for the same customer base.
I think Nissan really went the right direction with the 350z, in terms of making it a best value for your money type of sports car.. rather than an expensive, super-advanced technological marvel like we saw it evolve into during the "ZX" days.
will who ever stays that the Z is comparable to porsches and stuff like that will he never know what this car about. First this car is a tuner car that's is why it cames cheep compared to a porsche guys who would afford modding a porche even if u had the money it not even logic to do it. second the Z is a history to some of us such as me I bought this Z cuz me father use to own the 240z and he said it's a hell of a car at that time the 240z was around 5gs and the camaros, fire bird and the rest was less then that so it's not CHEEP the 350/370 Zs are the ultimate tuners and I bleave that what ever the rest the people say.
Yup...someone makes this thread every year.
All goes well until someone disses the Porsche Boxster, an owner gets linked to this thread and he signs up and starts defending his mid-engine roadster.
Then someone goes and posts the 2002-2003 Best Motoring video where they race an S2000, GTR, E46 M3, Porsche Boxster and new 350z on Tsukuba circuit. The Porsche comes in dead last so someone yells bloody foul because it's not the same exact year as the 350z or doesn't have a CAI or whatever.
Other people chime in with "I would rather have a 911..." (Like no shiet sherlock) with the few juveniles dissing the look of porsches because their egos are so tied up with their car (the Z)
Arguments are finally exhausted... then Porsche owner says something along the lines of...
"There is no substitute..."
only to dissappear and never come back.
Did I sum it up just about right? Or wait, was that the S2000 owners? Whatever it is, history gets confused repeating itself here.
