What kind of car is THAT?
One thing I’ve noticed after driving this car for about a week; People love to make comparisons or guess about is make (mostly people that don't know anything about cars). It's amusing when I think about all the "what's thats" and "looks likes" in just in one week....
Here are the top ones for me...
"What kind of Porsche is that"
"What is that? I thought that was a Porsche sitting over here"
"It looks like a Porsche"
"Is that the new Hardtop S2000"
"Is that the new 300zx" -funny
Ones that sucked to me....
"Looks like a Audi tt and a s2000 mix"
"Looks kinda like that new Lexus"
"Is that a new Volkswagen sports car"
Hands down, most people think it looks like a new model Porsche....Anyone else have any??

I don't see the Audi TT styling
I would like someone to explain to me exactly what body part on the 350Z looks like an Audi TT. I sure can't find even one design element that I would consider similar. To me the Audi TT looks more like a Karman Ghia. I think the Lexus SC430 has a rounded look more similar to an Audi TT than does the 350Z.
One of the things that drew me to the 350Z's design was my belief that it is reminiscent of the Porsche 928, but in an updated form.
I've seen the comment on in this forum several times that the 350Z looks like an Audi TT, and I don't get it. I guess they're both NOT retro and gray/silver seems to be the dominant color selection, but that's about as close a comparison as I can draw.
Now that I think about it, some of the comments may have been in reference to the 300ZX Twin Turbo, aka "TT" on this forum. I see a strong styling cue on the rear deck slope from the 300ZX.

I can see similarities to the TT in certain areas like the roof line and the wheels being pushed out to the corners. The 350Z just looks so much better as a total package than the TT. That's why it sucks to hear that comparison but when you focus on certain spots you can see some TT styling in it.

Countless times I've been asked if it is a new Porsche or heard "I don't know....it looks like a Porsche"
Fine by me, I like and respect Porsche and their cars. I just don't care for most of the owners.

But - overall to me the Z looks like the Z - not like the 300 - not like my TT, not like an S2K.
Don't worry so much about what mppl compare it to - mostly they are complimenting the design. When I had my TT - I got everything from - Hey is that the Boxster? (I had a coupe...) to Hey honey look, a Ford Focus. Just enjoy the car for what it IS. If you expect the regular everyday Joe to be able to differentiate between the new Z and a GT2 - you're going to be waiting a LONG time.

It never surprises me when people ask about a car. The millions of dollars these auto companies spend on branding to have so many folks just asking, "what car is that?"
In my S2000, I am questioned all the time. The damn "H" emblem is on both ends but it never stops folks asking if it's a BMW or Porsche.
The when I tell them it's a Honda, they ask "really?"
Again, I'm just anxiously awaiting to see a 350Z in the flesh!

My neighbor thought I bought a new porche. I dont seen any similarities to the TT in person, the Z is just plain mean looking, with some sex thrown in. This car is, short of the exotics, one of the top 5 (in looks) cars on the road today.
Cheers,
