I hit a deer several years ago in a Montero Sport. The deer glanced off and then fell on the roadside, it was still alive but clearly injured and wasn't getting up. I shot it once in the head with my pistol, got charged with hunting without a weapon and discharging a weapon on a state right of way.

Ended up having the charges dropped but it was major PITA.
