Default discontinued parts

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I just got my 08 350z and was researching parts for the spring. I am just wondering why so many companies are discontinuing parts for the z. First I noticed the Cobb tuner was discontinued, then the exhaust I want (Injen SES) is no longer being made and I'm sure there's others. Why are these great products going out of production. I know the 370z is out now, but that doesn't mean there are any less 350s around. Just wondering why this is happening. Before I got my car I heard of a lot of avenues for parts but it seems to be getting narrower and narrower. Any input would be nice. Not like we can make these parts come back, just wondering why they aren't being produced anymore, thanks.

Why do you think they are being discontinued?

Car is out of production. Sales of aftermarket parts for it are declining (especially for stuff that was never that popular). Economic conditions.

Personally, I haven't noticed a significant drop in the aftermarket. There are some OEM and NISMO parts that have been discontinued though.

As long as there are "new owners", there will still be mods made and aftermarket parts made.

+1 OEM and Nismo parts are usuallly limited run items... I was a Master Certified parts guy at Toyota/Lexus for 8yrs and TRD parts go discontinued all the time. Besides part prices are usually relative to the MSRP and last I checked 350z's arent starting at 29k anymore. Its thats simple...

In the industry in general, scum companies like Var's, rep body kit mfgs, etc, have caused aftermarket companies to lessen production or even stop it all together.

this is an invalid statement. the reason being is that the people who are buying the replica body kits and wheels could never afford the real thing or would never pay that much, so the replicas arent hurting sales like you may think they are.
the people who can afford the real things and are willing to drop 4K on wheels, are very rarely going to make the move to replicas. so the two markets are almost entirely separate

I can see your point but at the same time.... if there's no bootleg option, authentic is the only way you can go. Either way... people aren't dropping too much dime into cars at this moment in time.

Most products won't get discontinued for no reason. It could be a number of factors (lack of sales, discovery of an inherent flaw, or maybe the product needs revision and rereleased to the market under a different name etc.). Hard to predict what and when will be discontinued as well. Keep searching or find some used.

I can see your point but my statement is not "invalid". Replica parts have driven up the cost of some authentic parts, mostly aero, because they have cut back production and keep less stock, especially in the United States. Tee's, Tanabe, etc have issued reports stating this.

Granted the economy has a lot to do with it as well, replica companies who outsource is the main problem with JDM parts rarity.

Agreed. What's worse than the quality & price is the customer service. If you have a problem...YOU have a problem!!! Buyer beware...you get what you pay for!!

The replica market definately drains sales from "legitimate" aftermarket manufacturers. Replicas are a "quick fix" allowing people to buy into the next hot thing. I do agree however that to some degree there is separation between the replica & original markets.

Replicas undercut the original by undercutting the price. They can afford this since they have not made the capital investments in advertising & R&D

There are enough members on this site that you can find most parts through the marketplace unless it's the rarest of the rare.

Start there if you need something.

Which only makes perfect sense... I had Mugen M7's (wheels) on my Civic hatch, and when Rota started making replica's it drove the price up considerably. I paid 700.00 for a nice set back in 01... you cant touch a set now for less than 1500.00.
