Assuming you go to school full time and have had a part time job for 2 years that pays $7.00/hr

1700 hours worked would buy you a $12k car. That means you spent 85 weeks working 20 hours a week and spent every single penny on your car before taxes. (rough math done on toes)

You're either car poor and bad with money, spent more time working than getting an education, you bought a salvage title for $3k, or you're wrong about it being YOUR money.

EDIT: I left out the ever-important, "I make $40k a year!" claim by so many teens who come on here.

I'm guessing the reason you dicks don't believe me is that you haven't done anything productive in your life so far. Just a guess I could be wrong.

 

There was numerous times where I was making over $20/hr as a 17/18 year old. It depends what field you work in. Give the kid some credit.

If I was making "40k a year" there is no way in hell I would buy this car. (maybe since its an awesome car)

That would come out to be a little under 2/4 (because of taxes / insurace / gas) of your years wages would be put towards the car. This would leave you to around 25k to spend on everything else.

Your probably saying just finance the car but I don't like debt so I wouldn't finance the car. The extra money you spend on interest and other crap fees really adds up.

 

I've been 16 since April... And I have one? I've been working for a long time and I don't know how all of you are and I'm not saying you are but alot of people get really upset about 16 and 17 year olds getting cars such as the 350z because they're older and are just jealous they didn't get one at this age. But not all kids are the same and it's kinda immature to just say he's to young to have this he doesn't know how much it cost to own one blah blah blah. I mean some people don't give kids enough credit. Yeah we're not as experienced but I mean some are. I mean I asked my dad for a nicer car then my little Colorado as my first car and I didn't get it... So I fixed it up, then I saved up worked studied asked questions and then bought my car. I don't think it's really anyones place to decide how old you need to be to own a certain kind of car. I believe it's up to the parents and the kid depending on how mature they are.

i think the basics come down to this now (and it has been mentioned numerous times already)

A 350Z is a cheap affordable sports car at this point in time. a young kid can easily obtain one. I do believe however it should not be a first car. being young, dumb, and have a relatively high HP car is not a good combination for a first time driver. Just asking for trouble.

 

But you've still got to consider who it is and there experience... I've been driving for a long time though I'm only 16 and this is my 2nd car. This is a fast car but it's not that high hp.

 

What's your idea of a "long time" to be driving? I started learning to drive around 11 years old, i was driving on the roads with my dad by the time i was 13-14 years old, and I can tell you even back then in the early 90s where laws weren't as strict as they are now, and roads weren't as congested as they are now, by the time i was legally allowed to drive, i still had a lot to learn. But you learn from age and experiences, and face it, teens do not have either to their advantage, but they sure think they do. I don't think most of us are grouping all teenagers in the same boat, but we are grouping a majority in that boat of not knowing how to control a car properly. 230whp is a lot for a typical 17 year old that has only been driving maybe a year of their lives. And unfortunately they do not really have "real experience" of driving and learning how to deal with certain situations. This is the reason why insurance is so high for people in that age range. Most accidents are caused by them.

So you were driving on the streets at 13, that sounds like BS to me.

Being experienced isn't just knowing how to drive a certain car, its also being aware of what's going on around you and being able to predict certain situations on the roads.
