I paid cash for my first three cars:
15/16 (bought it right before my 16th birthday, practiced with a permit for about 3 months until I got a license: 1994 honda civic ex coupe (seafoam green) - $3500 (used - cash)
it was a 5 speed manual and a great car to learn on. No regrets on buying this for my first car.
My mom gave me $500 she had been saving to help me buy it and the rest was easy to come up with working full time and living at home. (Thanks mom!)
drove it til the transmission started giving me issues that I was no where near experienced enough to diagnose myself- had it looked at at many different shops, finally traded it for the work that was done when no one could get it running right.
back to square one but this time I had some cash saved up (was supposed to be for college but what do you do)
18: 1999 saab 9-3 convertible (red) -$7800 (used - cash)
Got a great deal on this beauty. turbocharged I4. Automatic but what did I care? I was 18 with a sporty little red convertible. It wasn't fast but fast would've only gotten me in trouble.
I had a lot of fun with this car until I wrecked it less than a year in. I won't defend my actions there... I can't blame any one for my stupidity but myself. Got cocky and drove it like a douche one day.
again, back to square one...
[insert 5 month period with no car, living at home- riding with my best friend /coworker to school/work saving up as much as i could]
18: 2001 dodge stratus R/T coupe (white) -$8000 (used - cash)
Drove almost 200 miles for this one. Fell in love with the body styling. 3.0 V6 5spd but slow as ****
Was making plenty of money (working for Nissan) so I got to play with this one. Turbo and all the bolt ons. Got creative with fiberglass on the interior. Never did buy rims though...
This car had mysterious electrical issues that I never could get straightened out... Went through 3 ECUs (including the one that was in it when I bought it) countless crackshaft pos sensors, etc.
Finally decided to sell it and somehow was able to sell it to carmax without them noticing the electrical issues. Got way more than I expected for it.
19: 2008 Ford Mustang (alloy) -$25000 (new-financed)
Took the stratus money plus some cash I had saved up and put 10k down on a brand new mustang and got a really great rate (my dad co-signed for me- Thanks Dad!). It was a V6 but hell it was a brand new mustang! I decided I was done buying used cars at this point- the stratus tainted that idea for me. Turns out, buying new cars is an even worse idea than buying used cars. Had a few issues out of it too most of which wern't covered under warranty which was the reason I bought new in the first place. Huge waste of money.
3 years of payments later, the Mustang was paid off and I got hit by a drunk (i assume) driver on the interstate. This guy hit me, a semi truck, a toyota, and a kia (totaled my mustang and the kia), and just kept driving. "drive it like ya stole it"? He probably did. Temp tags too.. They never found the guy. Put me in the hospital but when i recovered I had a nice fat pay out check from the insurance company for my mustang plus a pain and suffering settlement from the uninsured motorist division.
Took that and paid cash for my Z
23: 2004 Nissan 350Z (Black) -$14000 (used - cash) Best car I've ever owned
Now I loved my mustang for what it was but in terms of 'fun to drive' it doesn't even compare to the Z. The little Z is a lot faster than my heavy 6 cylinder mustang was and while it doesn't ride as smooth at high speeds, it handles like a dream compared to the mustang!
So, I may be pretty young myself but its been a journey
As for the "16- genesis coupe; 17- benz; 18- Z" guys... quit trying to act like you deserve that **** just thank your folks and enjoy.

How the hell did this turn into a thread where people list the cars theyve had since the beginning of time. I thought it was about how much we hate how 17 year olds get Z's ^_^

let's list the succession of cars we have all had since we turned 16...then we can show all of the 17 year olds what its like to actually work up to and earn a Z or any other sports car...I'll start...
