I see a lot of Z owners who dislike younger 17 year old Z owners, but I still believe there are some responsible young folk on these forums. I started working at 15 years of age and bought my first house this year at 23 years of age for 400k with no parental help.

first car - 1968 Camaro (up for sale now, finally!)
2nd car - 2002 honda accord LX (when I got my first long-commute job, needed a quick fix that was safer / got decent gas mileage)
3rd car - 2003 honda accord EX (I thought I would be happy staying with the accord if I got some more horses under the hood.. 240@crank wasnt enough and it still drove like a boat!)

now - 04 350z enthusiast. very happy. I am only 23 myself.

Lets see....

'66 Dodge Van
Datsun 510 (early 70's vintage)
Mercury Montego (early 70's again)
'76 VW Rabbit
'80 Datsun Longbed Pickup
'75 Mercedes 300D
'80 Mercury Sable
'84 Mercury Sable
'95 Ford Windstar (Bought New, totaled by another driver in '05)
'90 Ford Taurus
'02 Ford Explorer (bought new and still own)
'02 Chrysler Town & Country
'03 Ford Focus (current)
'06 Mazda3 (current)
'94 Mazda Rx-7 (just sold)
'07 Ford Escape (current)

That doesn't count another half dozen cars that were owned by my folks when I was kid but that I had the privilege to drive and maintain. When they ran that is.

I've only bought two new cars. The new van was a mistake. The new SUV was a business write off and I got it for 0% financing as well.

I'm 18 and brought my Z a few weeks ago which came to around $43,000 with stamp duty/insurance (it's expensive in Australia). Paid for in one go, no help from anyone else. I have my own business and not many living expenses so it wasn't that hard. Before that I was driving a broken down toyota camry...not much fun to drive lol

I'm 23 years old.

1) 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE AT. Bought used in 2003 with like 20k miles on it. My dad actually paid for this one. I only had to pay for insurance and all the upkeep.

2) 2005 Mazda 3I MT. Sold the Nissan and bought a new Mazda 3. Some of the Downpayment came from the sale of the Sentra and the rest I financed.

3) 2008 Nissan 350Z Base MT. Bought this and traded in the Mazda 3 with $1k left on the loan. Didn't get the greatest deal on the Mazda but the APR is good. Paying for it myself. Loving the car so far.

88 pontiac grand am
96 ford t bird
92 honda prelude (still have)
03 350Z touring

im 26 now. i personally cant stand young kids whose parents buy stuff for them. I feel that you cant really appreciate something until you have to work for it. but, if you got it, then you got it.

1996 Ford Taurus AT - Was grandparents car.
2003 Nissan 350z Touring 6sp MT

In response to the "how do I get a Z when im 17"

I knew I wanted a sports car, so I started looking at what was available in my price range and what I thought looked good. I shortly came across the Z and was eager to know how much one would cost. Once I found out that a Z could potentially be affordable for me I started looking for a Z close to my area that satisfied my needs.

I started browsing these forums before purchasing a Z doing some preliminary work, making sure that the car seemed reliable enough. I started looking on cars.com and autotrader.com, however I ended up finding my car on ebay.

I'm 20 years old and took the initiative to get a loan and use some money that I had saved up as the difference on what the loan couldn't cover.

I got a loan for 12,000 and the car was going to cost me 14,200. I had absolutely no credit so I had my dad co-sign on the loan.

To top the cake I didn't know how to drive a manual transmission vehicle before the Z, but took a lot of peoples' advice and bought the MT. Everyone said "don't buy an AT sports car"

At first I was frustrated on starting from a stop and some crummy shifting, but now that I have the hang of it, I really enjoy it. I can have a little fun whenever I want with the MT and can control how the car sounds etc.

Overall I'm completely satisfied with my purchase and get lots of good looks/stares and I got a thumbs up from a guy on a moped the other day (lol)

In a nutshell If you want something, you can attain it, for the most part. You just have to put the effort and heart into it.

Andy

I'm 17 right now and am paying for my CPO'd '05 Altima SER 6MT 100% by myself ($22,000 when it was all said and done, have already paid off a little over $10,000). When it's paid off (2-3 yrs haha) I plan on selling it an getting an 07 Enthusiast 6MT, hopefully DB or PPW.

Here's a few pics of my SER...
