Official NAV Thread
I ordered the Navigation. My car will be here in December. Everyone that has the Nav please tell the poor souls who have to wait 4 more months about the Nav. Cool features, usefullness, etc....................................

From reading some threads here on the site, it seems folks are dissapointed with not having a touch screen. I'm guessing that they were told it would have a touch screen by the sales dealer.
Also, I read on a post where the feature for adding names to an address book does not exist.
Would be interesting to know more on this. . .

I currently have a touch screen NAV system in my Acura. The trouble is Nissan, to this very day, says on their website that the NAV system is touch screen! They are continuing to lie about it.
I am paying 2 grand for this thing and I expected it to be touch screen capable.

We didn't hear that it doesn't have an address book, rather the owner couldn't find it. I hope this was simply a user training issue. (No insulting implied, I am sure it will be a learning point for all of us).
As far as touchscreen, do we know definitively if it doesn't have one? We have heard, again, that it couldn't be discovered. I have heard it is optionally enabled/disabled because of the joystick.
I agree with this thread that it would be awesome to hear actual owner accounts.
Let them start!

It is not touchscreen, and that's no big deal in my opinion. The controls are easy enough.
The thing that impressed me the most was while driving in a friends Z is that he was able to have it vocally direct us to the nearest gas station with just a few taps on the controls. The big advantage to a DVD based Nav vs., say, a handheld Garmin is the sheer amount of info it holds. My Garmin has no info on gas stations or even addresses for that matter.
It also updates faster than any Nav I've ever used. About 4 times a second instead of just once.
Anyway I will be relying on the Nav to guide me home from Texas when I pick up my car this weekend, and will post my impressions monday.

The NAV system is very cool and I feel it was well worth the price. It does have an address book and lots of features, to many to explain. Touch screen would have been cool, but the joystick works great.
If you ordered it, you will love it when you get it.

My 2002 Pathfinder LE with NAV is touch screen, its interesting if the 350Z does not have the same. From the screen shots of the Z's NAV, the screen and display looks almost identical to my Pathfinder's.

The nav is very cool on the 350z ....i got mine today with nav...it held my car at port 2 weeks....man that sucked....but anyway I got it and am now playing with it.
Its the best nav i have played with to date touch screen or not.
There is something annoying you gotta hit agree evertime you start it up it do the nissan disclaimer....I need to read if it can be disabled.
Also since its joystick they wont let you program in a new location if the car is moving...which is a good thing...i been playing with the nav while driving and it can be a distraction (playing with all the functions while driving)
I paided 2000 for it and YES IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!!
my Z looks SOOOOO SCI-FI at night. i'm working on making it play dvd videos right now. I'll post if i can integrate a dvd player with the LCD.

WHAT you cant play movies on this system????????????????
You can't enter in anything when you're moving?!?
Wow, that (and the lack of touchscreen) is a step back from my 2.5 year old 01 Acura CL-S system.
The fact that the people that HAVE Nav in their Zs aren't gushing over how cool it is probably tells us something, huh?
The Acura ones absolutely ROCK!

When I got in the first time the thing was set on "night". There is a D/N push button, if the screen looks dark press it.
Also, "Track Up" is best vs "North up". With Track Up it's easier to read where you are heading. B4 I figured these two things out, the experience was pretty disappointing.
Also a thing to check is that the system can be setup for short and long menus. The long menus have the cool function.
An example is the POI --Points of Interest Feature. If you are on a route somewhere you can punch in a quick stop and it will route you to an ATM, or Bank, or Restaurant. the CD holds about twenty categories of this type of stuff.
It's a nice system, but be prepared to spend time learning it. But that's the fun of the toy!!

It is interesting that several of us on the site ordered Nav systems in our Z's based on good experiences in our Acura's. I have a 2001 3.2TL that will share my garage with the Z. I should be able to get wherever I want to go either fast with 4 people or VERY fast with 2 - and not get lost unless I want to.
