Z Owners with Automatics - How do you like it?
i got a way better deal mileage wise with my auto. happy with my decision. "eww why get a sports car in auto" because **** you and your 95 camry thats why!
as the "cool" kids say now a days...yolo

When my Z was an Auto I had put APS TT kit on it with a valve body upgraded. It was an absolute blast. Once you learned when to shift, how much gas to give, etc. you would have so much fun.
You were never out of boost, you never missed gears, and in stop and go traffic, it was extremely nice. Just always had to worry about it overheating while at the track, but that's what gauges and coolers are for.
At 400rwhp, it was awesome. However, I have since swapped it for bigger power. But if you like it, then who cares.

I test drove an auto Z before I bout my MT Z. I didn't have plans to make my Z a DD at the time, so I felt the Z 6 speed was way more fun, and shifting gears was a way better experience, especially when shifting into 3rd. The auto was too laid back, and didn't feel as fast. But as a DD auto would have been preferred. Ultimately, most enthusiasts would agree that a manual sports car is much more fun. Trying to justify automatic being better because of gas mileage, traffic, etc is not a Z debate, but overall argument of the manual vs auto for any car debate.
Bought an '06 with auto because of
1. price
2. My daily commute has too much traffic.
3. I plan to give this car to my daughter when she turns 16 in 3 years. This was probably the biggest influence for getting AT. I want her to concentrate on the road and not on when to shift.
I tried using the clutchless manual shifter, but it's not the same.

just being honest, im just lazy lol, but there really is no difference, as long as a driver learns throttle response, shift speed, etc.., the transmission has no effect on driving ability or experience
I am 20, Wanted a 350z since I first saw one when i was 11-12? I finally ran across a Red AT and since I really haven't mastered manual I jumped on it. On topic though, it's great I can focus more on having fun when i want to and pay closer attention to the idiot drivers in city traffic on my way to work. Buddy of mine has a manual and it's really close although I "Feel" the power more in a Manual I'll just stick to my AT. Maybe I'll buy a manual later. The "Slapshift" manual in the car feels nice kinda has a delayed reaction but if you take that into accounts shifting goes fine and it's fun to play with when your bored. :P
Folks can hate and state false stereotypes/assumptions all they want. I've driven plenty of 350Z's -- both 6MT and 5AT -- and there is no real difference performance-wise with 99.999999999% of the drivers out there. Folks think a MT is more fun? Knock yourselves out kids! I've driven MT's for over 30 years, and I personally can't stand the damned things. They are 100-year old technology, and there is a good reason why almost no serious sportscars come with them anymore. It's the same reason no one uses MT's for any kind of serious drag racing anymore ---- consistency! Now if you are, say Michael Schumacher, then yes you will probably be a tiny bit faster with a MT. But no one on these forums is THAT good of a driver (despite what their egos try to tell them), and most people will drive better and more consistently with a good AT. And the 5AT in the 350Z is one of the absolute best AT's ever built by ANY manufacturer!! In manual mode it is an absolute blast to drive once you learn how to properly judge the delay and shift accordingly. I recently drove one that had the valve body upgrade and that is now definitely on my list of mods to do!! The bottom line is, the loose nut behind the steering wheel has WAY more influence on a cars performance than any transmission. AT or MT? Take your pick, because in the hands of most drivers there isn't a nickles worth of difference performance-wise.
