Default Whoo hoo! 350Z Chip...

Most of you dont know that i've worked with this one ECU company out of torrance (GForce Engineering)for over three years now, and they've been really really supportive of nissan projects. they had an ECU out for maximas and such which is really rare. others might know of their fame as HonData with true race-spec ECUs.

well this is what my friend told me of the 350Z.
"Yeah, we can reprogram the 350Z, but we dont' have the programmer yet. It's flash. It works in japan and all we have to do is get the programmer and test it out here. I don't even think you have to pull out the ECU, which could be a problem. I don't know too much info on it. All I know is we can program any car that Nissan comes out with starting with the 350Z (or car that come out after the Z) 'cuz all their ECUs are giong to be Flash."

sounds promising, eh?

well. i'll be dropping my track edition there once i get it. Their main programmer is truly a brilliant Engineer. hopefully i can get something out by 2k3.

Ask your friends if they can defeat the limiter on the cruise control.

Bilz T, with all these talk about chip paint, it is kind of scary heh?

Gforce, yeah, I heard of them.. They are pretty good actually. Better than Dinan IMO.

So it's flashable? that is way cool.. you don't need to replace the chip, just hook up the computer and reflash it, like Computer Bios heh?

So, maybe they can sell us in interface cable, then we can hook it up to our laptop, then just program the chip our self. We can just buy the program.

get rid of rev limiter/speed limiter should be piece of cake... it's the a/f ratio and timing that is hard to tune.. keep us posted!

I had a GForce fuel computer on my '97 Supra TT. Not sure how much it helped since I bought it already modded, but it sure was expensive! (~$1200 IIRC)

Good work Cheston. Should be a decent amount of mods out in a few months. Did they say anything about chips for newer Maximas???

Hondata does top notch work. But they haven't released an S2000 ECU.

Anyways, I think Nissan ECU's are way more tuner friendly than the proprietary junk Honda uses.

Should be interesting.

to Give you an example of Hp gain
for the maxima

we gained ~15 hp MAX peak in the midrange, with an overall 5hp gain throughout the rpm range from 3k->redline

nissan has a closed loop program from 0->3k so you cant touch fuel mapping...

so if we can repeat this type of gain for the 350Z, you'd think you can get more power due to the tendency of nissan to be VERY conservative on their ecu mappings.. yea. 15+ max peak is reasonable with say 100 octane....

i'm just pullin numbers outta my butt so dont quote me, and dont flame me either.. just tellin you what i've seen prior.

more details for sure soon

Still considering a lease due to a feeling that there will be a better Z in a couple of years....

Would someone be able to figure out that the chip was flashed when you turn it in? Yes, I know it can be done but most likely will the chip get checked on turn in?

Even if they could, I can't imagine a dealer going to the trouble to check something like that...

Well, if it works the same way the OBDII ECUs on BMWs work, you will problably need a tool to "inject" the new code. For BMWs there is the famous Shark Injector, which hooks up to the ECU's fault code port and flashes the new code into the ECU. Reason for the injector is because every time an OBDII BMW goes in for service at a dealer they flash the ECU with the latest sofware patch from the factory overwritting what ever is there. For those who buy the Shark Injector, they simply re-flash the ECU after they get the car back from service.

Does this ECU simply lean out the air-fuel mixture like most chips do? Sure, it'll give you more power, but it also will lean out your car too much at times. Fact is that with every mod you do, it'll affect your car differently. You need to find a stand-alone system that has 3D fuel mapping capabilities so that you can tune it on the dyno to maintain a stoicmetric a/f mixture...

Z girl in Japan posted a couple of days ago, Japanese tuner in japans findings, and I remember reading that the 350Z has a next generation ECU, unlike predecessors which could be flashed. Adding to the complexity is that there are something like 16 different computers controlling different aspects of the engine. Also mentioned that the speed limiter could not be easily defeated, as in previous ECU generations.

Yep, saw that too. Doesn't look like an easy task but it also made it look like it would be cheaper from the interpretation.
