Default License Plate Question

I wanna buy the satin finish $30 license plate surrounds from Courtesy.

Question: But will I be able to mount the license plate in the front air intake area instead of right smack dab in the middle of the front of my car?

Are there holes in the front bumper from the license holder? I ask because I saw a bracket thing on the site, too. Please help- I wanna have these by x-mas. (Buying gifts for myself that can be "from" my parents.)

If your Z has the factory license plate bracket on it, there will be two holes in the bumper.

If you want to mount it below the bumper, you can get the Z Bracket from courtesyparts.com

I purchased a license plate adapter from Strictly Z for 04 Touring Z. I installed it a couple of days ago and it looks fairly good.

The advantage (IMO) to this adapter is that is screws directly into the tow hook and does not require you to drill anything on the car.

It costs $49.99 which is $10 more than the Courtesy Parts unit but the Courtesy unit requires you to drill hole in your grill area.

You should see a couple of "dimples" in your bumper just above the air intake for the front plate. My Brick came with the plate installed which was fine with me. But lots of people obsess over the front plate & use a custom plate holder that uses the tow bar bracket behind the air intake.

Personally, I don't see obstructing the air intake but several folks swear it doesn't matter.

Default No Holes Please

Buy one of the adapters...please don't drill your bumper.
Looks as good as it can with a plate on the front...or just pay $10 extra each time you get pulled over...

Default Strictly Z Adapter

The Strictly Z license plate adapter requires access to the tow hook mounting area. If your front grille blocks the tow hook hole then it won't work, but if you can access the tow hook mounting area through your grille, it will work.

No front plate! The car looks great without. Haven't put a plate up front on any car for many years and I've never been stopped. I keep the second plate in my glove compartment (just in case) and will tell the local police that there was no bracket with the car if I do get stopped. Worth the chance to me. Enjoy your new car. They are a lot of fun.

Talia,

Some cars come with the front plate already mounted. Mine did, so if i were to remove the front plate, I'd have two holes in my front bumper where it was mounted.

Some cars didn't have the plate installed at the factory, and they didn't drill the holes. If you don't HAVE to have a front plate, you can leave it as is. (no plate, no holes).

If your car didn't come with a front bumper, and you DO need to have one, then you can either drill the holes, or get some sort of adapter like the strictly z adapter.

Your fourth option is to ignore the law, and in most cases, you probably won't get pulled over anyway.

Z's do not come from the factory with drilled holes. Usually the dealer, drill the holes into your bumper. (note the dimpals)
If you have holes you can get them plugged. I drive around with no front plate. I also did not let the dealer drill holes into my front bumper.
For inspection, I used zip ties, to tie front plate to the grill, and once i went threw inspection, I cut them off. You normally will not get stopped. I know a lot of vette owners who do not have a front license plate. I would say try it, and if you run into to many problem, but it on.
