Default Rear ended by a Hummer

saw her coming in the rear view mirror but all i can do was clench my butt.

unsurprisingly, the hummer had no damage besides a bent license plate.

old lady in front of me stopped when the bus in front of her pulled to the median to a bus stop when she could have just drove around the bus. lady in the hummer behind me did not even hit her brakes going like 25-30.

during impact, my car flew forward and scuffed old ladys car in front of me, but apparently she didnt know and drove off. no plates or info for her.

in conclusion, theres a "hummer" imprint on my rear bumper and half an imprint from the plates from the ladys car in front of me

Update! 6/24/12

Got my car back after 6 weeks in the body shop... initial repair was $4,700. Ending total is $9,700.

Damage doesn't appear to be too bad. Should be an easy fix.

Aftermarket?

new rear bumper and components behind it new hatch, possible replacement of taillights since tabs are broken, same with exhaust make sure you check the spare tire well. that could have been bent from the impact as well appears to be purely cosmetic in the range of 1-2500 in parts and another 1k for labor or so.

Your cars totalled man, ill give you $200 for all 4 wheels.

Just kidding. Its funny how the bumper dimpled in near the driverside taillight. Is that light damaged? It doesnt seem too bad, i hope your insurance covers it and you get a new bumper and hatch out of this.

What type of Hummer? I promise you at 25mph from an H1... your Z is toast.

Verdict - I'm not into any aftermarket rear bumper at the moment. I prefer a stock bumper with something like a DAMD rear diffuser.

Arvin - no light isnt damaged, oddly. everything around the taillight is dented or creased though.

Flo-Rida - h3 hummer. only the front right half of the hummer hit me.

come to think of it, i had the car in neutral and was at a complete stop with foot light on the brake pedal. id like to think that reduced the impact a little.

Your estimate is way, way too low. First of all, 1k for labor? More like 1k in paint labor alone the way shops charge. And after he replaces the things you mentioned, the killer is the rear quarter panel:

Our rear quarters are stupid expensive to have replaced/work done to them, I forgot how many hours just to remove/replace it.

Either way, Good luck, In for the estimate!

Damn that sucks... glad you didn't get injured but when someone says "Hummer" I automatically assume an H1.

as long as the rear quarter panels are ok, the bumper will need to be nixed of course ( upgrade time) but also theres the impact bar behind all that ... you will need to replace that.

slidegood maybe?
Id assume its mid way expensive/cheap but the installation of the compression cylinders etc looks like it'd be a pain. Dunno.
Heres mine after a light tap from some total illegal behind in an Accord me... staring at the same Ferrari F40 that drove by..

notice the dent above the driver side can? Hard to see from this pic, but it pushed in a good inch and a half. the whole things pushed back in plus its bent... looks aluminum.. and MY plastic bumper was BARELY noticeably damaged.. im sure yours is toast under there.

You're lucky, doesn't look too bad. I knew it had to be a H3, I have a H2 and mine lines up with the tail lights. I'm assuming she's fully insured?

So I have a question for you experienced guys. The other party's insurance wants to do an appraisal on my car. Should I allow them to? What are the benefits? I am taking my car to a recommended body shop Monday to get a repair estimate, and do not know whether or not I should also get my car appraised by the insurance company.
