I had similar issues with stupid burnouts. At first I also thought it was my technique or something wrong with the Z. Then I changed up and did a smart burnout....problem solved.

In all seriousness what is this brake light mod? I have read a little about it but it seems sketchy and everyone seems to have a different opinion of what's going on (go figure lol.. wouldn't be any other way on my350z.com..). My car is a base 2007 HR Z no VDC, TCS or any of that crap.. but of course it does have ABS.

I have done many burnouts, in fact I used to drift (I was a charter member of Southeast Drift Association) so I know what I'm doing.. however I tried to do a burnout in my 2007 Z a few months ago and had trouble myself. The only thing I could guess was that I was doing it on concrete which has better traction that asphalt, but the car really didn't want to do a good standing burnout.. it would either creep forward or bog down if I got on the brakes too hard.

The brake light switch circuit tells the ECU you're applying the brakes, and the ECU is programmed to close the throttle if the brakes are applied. (Remember Toyota's problems?)

Apparently, pulling the fuse disables the safety feature.

Interesting.. so obviously it doesn't kill all of the throttle.. I wonder just how much it kills. I might have to mess around with this.

The TV ad said it was introduced on all Nissan cars in 2004.

honestly it seems like most people haven't done burnouts themselfs. it practicly impossible to do a standing burnout in the z (without any mods) because it cuts power when the brakes are applied. to test this try doing a second gear roll and "brake boost" or just floor it and hit the brakes at the same time to keep your car at a constant speed you can feel the motor cut power and if you let off the brakes it will take a short amount of time before the power is able to go to max again

For future reference for people using the search function. What these two guys said pretty much sums it up. Can't do brake stands in the 350Z because of the brake override that's built into the car. I had a feeling the car cut throttle when I stepped on the brake that's why I bogged down. Way to get around that is to pull the brake light fuse like these two gentlemen said.

Thanks to all your comments.

Lol. Thats why you dont do burnouts in trucks...

Anyways. I have a related question. Whenever i peel out, or even if its an accidental wet peel with VDC on in the rain, why does my car always start to drift off to the right. Its always towards the right. Ive tried search the forum and google to no avail. Does anyone have any idea? its just a curiosity thing.

Probably an alignment problem.

Also for people that are looking into doing the brake light fuse trick to disable the brake override, the fuse is located underneath the dash near your deadpedal. It's a 10A fuse in the middle of the fusebox.

maybe it's the same effect that you get in a small prop plane on take off. This is going to sound all technical but, the rotational force of the prop puts enough torque on the plane that it makes it want to turn right on take off. When it gets up to speed, the plane flies straight. I would assume it's the same principle with burnouts?

Actually, the torque reaction and P-factor make the plane want to go left, and you need to apply right rudder during take-off.

If you're doing a burnout on a public road, the crown of the roadway may make the car drift to the right. It's a gravity thing.
