Exclamation HELP!!...

...with a title issue.

I bought my Z new via the internet while in Germany back in 2007. The car shipped from Virgina to Germany with the Manufactures Statement of Origin. I have since lost the MSO. The vehicle has never been titled and cannot be titled until an original MSO is produced. I called the dealer who contacted Nissan Corporate and they were told that they (Corporate) could not re-issue a duplicate MSO. I personally contacted Nissan Corporate and was told the same. I also have a letter from them making the same statement. I need to know what can I do, who do I need to talk to...anything, to get the MSO from Nissan. I cant do anything with the Z until it is properly titled.

I would contact DMV in your state and see what you can do, there has to be some sort of alternative...I doubt your the ONLY one that this has ever happened to. Maybe Nissan is just giving you the run around though...

Didnt catch that... i suck at reading lol..

Still though, there has to be something that they can do at the dealer...like i said Im sure that this has happened before. Have you tried to speak with a manager directly? And also, Im sure Germany has a pretty legit "DMV" too.....so i guess my advice still kinda applies lol

I left out the part about how I am now in California. The car is registered here now, but still has never been titled. I can apply for a salvage title, but refuse to do so; the car has less than 30K on it! DMV Cannot do anything to make Nissan regurgitate a duplicate MSO. I am looking to trade/sell it and I cant do a damn thing without the MSO/title!!

So why would they issue a salvage title but not a real title? This is confusing....

Best bet is to keep bugging nissan for the MSO and talk to a manager and complain...

It sounds like they are pretty set on the policy that you can't get another one. And you already know what the alternatives are.

Dammit! Sounds like I am screwed. I was hoping someone knew an alternative that I havent already tried...Junk, the rules for a salvage title are different than a normal title. You apply through the DMV. You have to wait xx months to see if anyone else has a claim on your vehicle. After the wait time, title is yours.

How can a car be registered in California without a title?

You're leaving a piece of the puzzle out - I know in NJ without a title you cant register a car - pretty sure that's the case in every state. Otherwise how do you prove ownership? If the car is legitimately registered the DMV can issue you a replacement title.

I lost the title from one of my cars years ago and had to get it from the DMV - it took 3 months but they eventually mailed me a new title.

I lost a title once before in NJ. I went to the DMV and they printed out a new title for me. It took all of about 5 minutes.

Nope. The car has never been titled. Its been registered in two states..Tenn and Cali. I got it registered in Tenn right after leaving Germany. This was good for the year, but when I went to renew, the Tenn DMV was like no title, no registration. I live in California now and Im guessing when it comes time to renew it will be the same thing..no title, no renewal.

Is a "mso" the same thing as a "title"...? Never heard that term before. What has to be done is, the owner b4 you bought the vehicle would have to go to the DMV of where it was titled and renew a title, and get a DUPLICATE made....then send it to you. If i were you i'd get in contact with them and send them the money to do so. Other then that you can get in contact with the DMV and state that the vehicle has been left on your property and put in to do a TAKEOVER procedure to get the title in your name.

Sorry about your luck. I just shipped my Z from Virginia to Dubai, UAE and had to cough up the title before I could even ship it. So I had to dig deep into my savings and pay off the car first. It will be here 23 June and I can't wait.
