As stated above, some people are more fortunate then others. I drive a Z06 now and was driving a 328 ci BMW Which both my dad bought me (leased to be specific). But guess what? My dad is a Doctor to whom the monthly payments of both of them cars is basically pocket change. You have to understand that people. Some parents have a lot of $, and they would do anything to make their kids happy. (of course, i in particular give a lot to my parents in return) Lets quit the BS and focus more on the question that was arrised by the topic starter.

Now to answer your ? about the Z vs the M3. Lets just say that there is NO comparison what so ever. The M3 (02 models in particular) will embaress the Z in a race. No questions asked. The 2002 M3 hits 0-60 in 4.7 (.1 secs faster the the regular vet) and hits the 1/4 mile in 13.2 secs.
OTH, the Z hits 0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 mile in 14.0 secs.

That is almost a whole second faster then the Z in the 1/4. A "almost" whole second is fast enough to beat the Z in 4-5 cars lenght just in the 1/4, never mind at higher speeds. I am not saying the 350Z isnt nice, it sure is, i saw one here in my city, and it is beautiful, but lets try to compare it to cars within its calss, (S2000, WRX, mustang gts, etc..)

Kids & Cars. If your parents have that much money and have nothing better to do with it, and want to help their kids, invest it. Put it away for 5 more years and when they come out of college help them with a house and REAL equity, not something that immeadiately depreciates in some spur of the moment buy. I have never met someone who was handed a nice car at 16 or 17 and didn't abuse it. They swore up and down they took care of it, but then you would see them dropping the clutch and in general abusing the hell out of it, let alone never maintaining it properly.

Performance. Like said above, the M3 will destroy a 350Z. I have raced S2000's, other M3's, alot of worked cars, and very few come close to M3's. The only stock car that was a good race was an 01 Vette, good driver too.

 

are you saying the M3 is worth $20K more than a 350Z track? I can afford the track with my home equity loan but the M3 would require me to take a car loan for about $20K (that I'd rather avoid doing).....

 

Man, I wish I could have had this type of dilemma back in the days...M3 or a Z?

I said I moved out on my own at 17, I bought my 1st s2000 at 19, the m3 and the other S2k at 20. What do I do? I already posted that in a previous post. I also do Web Designing and E-marketing w/ a strong client base which pays me monthly on annual contracts.

baven Hey, its fine if you are "fortunate" and are given a nice car, what roasts me is these kids who are given nice cars see their friends being given a nicer car and then they WANT a even nicer car yet, they expect to be handed everything.

I saw my friends have much nicer cars then I had, (which I earned myself) it made me just work harder to get what I truley wanted and now that I have them, I'm happy now.

Power to weight ratio is roughly the same between the S2000 and the 350Z. Also MOST S2000's when tested by car magazines are like 5.5 and 14.1 sec. I don't know where you are getting your data from, but the S2000 has been tested many more times than the 350Z and I would say on average the two cars are equal in 0-60 and the 350Z is a little faster at the end of the 1/4 mile. Besides the weight difference there could also be a diffrence in gearing.

This was done bone stock.. Is the gearing much different then the S?

5.2sec? Says who, a car mag? I bet you couldn't get 5.2sec if you're life depended on it even if you dropped the clutch at 6K. I know the Z is capable of 5.3sec in REALITY since RaceBoy got that time with his Z and that's a FACT. Now you can go and quote magazines and whatever but know this, an s2000 will always lose to a 350Z in a REAL race.

BTW I agree that the m3 will beat the Z, no question about that unless the guy really doesn't know how to drive.

 

Hey now...there is nothing wrong with a kid driving a nice car, as long as:
1. he can fn drive,
2. he can damn drive....

The Z has already been clocked by a magazine at 13.94 so I don't see what your point is.

The Z has been out less than a month so I doubt there have been a lot of recorded times at the drag strip. I would stake my life on the fact that the Z will be able to pull 13.6 sec stock.

Time will tell, but the S2000 is NOT a faster car than a 350Z by any stretch of the imagination.

 

Do you go to college? Sounds like you're pretty young.

Of course, I believe in an education, but on the other hand, in the 4-5 years you spend in college a person can up their career drastically. This can also go the other way.

Also, your comment about making more with a degree isn't always true, but definitely does help.

Seeing that the Z has more HP and Torque (better power-weight), I'd hope that it could get at least into the mid-high 13s on an average basis like the old 300ZXs.

Plenty of people have gotten in the high 13s with an S2000. One person so far has gotten a 13.66. So I'm guessing that the low 5 sec 0-60 mph and high 13s people pull in the S2000s are in La La Land?

NissanZ, do you own a 350Z? If so, how about we do some "REAL" racing as you call it and enter into some track days.

I'll gather up a bunch of S2000s and see how you do. To give you the advantage, we'll do it at Big Willow Springs track, which is the fastest in the west coast, since the Z is obvoiusly faster in the straight line.

As much as I love both cars, I think I would buy the Z over the S.

I took a look at one on Sunday night and all I can say is, WOW!

The wide front and rear fenders are awesome! My only complaint is the rear end of the car. The exhaust pipes are too close together and the rear looks too much like an Audi TT.

Im sure if you can add quad exhaust and slam the car on 19" it will look totally awesome!

funny that is what I use to day about the M cars, now the exhaust being a little close (compared to domestics) has grown on me.
