Ok, so i am reading conflicting things. Quite a few forums are saying that they are illegal, including a few posts on this one. I take it they are illegal, just no one cares? Take them off before you get state inspections.

If you're worried about inspection, keep your Z stock. HFC's should be able to pass but you take your chances with any performance mod.

Back when I had high flow cats, the only way to get them to pass was to drive around on the highway under load for a while to heat them up and then drive to the inspection station. I would pass about half the time.

if you live in an area with emissions laws then yes, test pipes will be illegal they remove your catalytic converters and replace them with a basically straight tube with no sort of emission limiting device, i would imagine washington dc has a deq so you would be correct in assuming that it is illegal, however no one would know the difference until it comes time to visit the green folks down at deq, you can go with the test pipes as long as you switch them out before the inspection, its like the saying "what momma dont know wont hurt her"

gotcha. I think ill focus more on my handling of the car rather then the hp. Most NA mods dont add all that much and money is best saved for a turbo or s/c.

So i have some hotchkis on the way. Now to turn to the mod list.

Oh wait, for the S2K antenna, does that actually do anything? Increase reception? Or is it just for looks?

i got an 07 as well and first mods i did were suspension. no point in going for all power if you can't handle and/or stop your car. spend money on suspension and tires (i'm runnin 245/285) first, imo. the stock motor of the HR should be gettin you around 260 - 270 whp.

intake and full exhaust setup will MAYBE get you an additional 10 whp and possibly a bit more with a tune seeing that once you upgrade you'll be running a lean a/f ratio.
i myself have stillen intakes, headers, HFCs, and nismo catback WITH a tune and i'm scratchin at 295 whp. its not really night and day difference in butt dyno unless you go full throttle. but she does sound sexier that's for sure.

the suspension setup however - i notice right away taking corners.

no need for spacer on HR (don't think they offer it). no need for short shifter either - gears are so long on the Z that you're not going to gain much of anything with it. you can drop a few hundred on the Nismo Short Shifter so you can adjust it 20% shorter or longer or back to stock. but i would spend the money on a new clutch and light weight flywheel (if you don't mind clutch chatter).

make sure your car doesn't have the clutch master cylinder recall (or you'll be burn clutches left n right when tryin to dump it).

lastly - if you do absolutely need power... save up for FI... $9000 @ GTM in california will get you there haha heard they're posting 450 whp on stock blocks. bolt ons won't get u any where near that.

Is this a question? If so, long tube intakes (Injen/Stillen Gen 3) are the way to go. Short ram intakes don't offer any gains in HP. Just improve looks/sound

Just the looks. I have an Agency Power Shorty. Looks way better IMO, but the reception does suffer.

ill admit, that antenna does look alot better. The K&N Filters just came in, and man its a world of difference. Def. smoother and quicker acceleration. Not bad for like $80 too.

I love the advice from other 2007-08 owners, the engines between the years differ so much that its hard to take advice (kinda) from other year owners.

The next thing im going to do are the sway bars. Its part of the suspension but still kinda cheap.

As for the suspension, what specifically did you buy? What parts? How much cost? Were your parts different b/c you have thicker tires?

Honestly, get good tires first. Once you can outdrive those, then sways. Read up in the tech section for more.
