Default The nice thing about the 06 RevUp motor...

I used to have an 03 before I upgraded to the 06. Loved the power and torque on that motor, very sexy indeed. When I made the switch this summer to the 06, I actually felt a little disappointed with the RevUp. It just didn't have that "umph" the 03 made. 300hp/264lbs compared to 287hp/274lbs really didn't seem like much of a difference to me. But you can definitely feel it.

Its been scorching hot this summer in SoCal, but today was actually very very cool when the sun went down (low 60s). To my absolute shock...... it felt like my motor had a complete overhaul. In the cold, this thing is an absolute monster. It pulled so much harder, and the best thing about this motor that I have noticed is that the RPM's just keep going. I found myself thinking I need to shift, but the RPM's are still at 5,500 and I have until 7 before I need to upshift. Not to mention the freaking noise....... omg. What a monster . I can't wait until the weather cools off now! Gives me a completely different feeling than my 03 did. The power just kept on goin and goin it was so beautiful. Ugh. Sorry guys, had to just let this wonderful feeling out LOL.

For those who are wondering, my car is not consuming oil. A little over 1/4 of a quart per 3,300 miles. Perfect.

I know that some of you are going to say, all cars perform better in cold weather. Yeah I know that. I'm merely expressing my surprise that the motor indeed has something special about it that the 03 didn't have. That is all

This is something I've also noticed about the RevUp -- there's just power everywhere, not just at max tq or max hp.

I know what you mean, the hot temps on an FI car is horrible. Heat soak really makes the car feel sluggish.

Dude it drives me crazy, especially when I use the AC. NO power whatsoever. Pretty sad!

lmfao @ the bretheran pic. That cracked me the hell up!

I'd love to get more power out of my motor.... will definitely look into this MREV2 thing

With most if not all of the bolt ons my 06 feels great even when it's 120. I can't wait for winter because i know it will feel like I have a SC in comparison.

congrats on the trade-up man!

right now I have the option of getting an 03 or an 06 with nearly the same miles, but the 06 is $3000 more.. do you think the rev-up is worth it? Little extra hp, little less torque.

I would imagine you wouldn't notice any differences unless you WOT to redline

Wish I had the chance to drive an 03-05 more thoroughly. I drove my friend's 04 for a few minutes around town, but didn't drive it hard. Kept it mostly under 4k rpm. It felt pretty similar to my current 07 (then again, it was a few years back). I guess you really notice the power advantage of the HR in the upper rpm range.

Man, that's tough. I don't want to discourage you from buying the 06, but I'd be cautious about picking it over the 03. How many miles exactly are on these cars? If they're under 60k, you'd still have Nissan's manufactures warranty. If you buy the 06 and its an oil consumer, they will replace your short block free of charge. That's what happened to me after I was put on an oil consumption test. I spoke to my service manager today about the possibility of the motor burning oil again once the 12k/1yr warranty on the short block expires. He's a good guy, very knowledgeable and down to earth. He told me that this happened to me relatively late (five years after the problem initially began), and in the past Nissan had a stock pile of long blocks/short blocks that they kept swapping out (same defective motors). That's why people kept coming in complaining of oil consumption again despite the motor swaps. He said the short block I received was the result of all the advances they have made since then (in other words, a reconfigured short block that was not part of that large stockpile they kept using before). He proceeded to tell me that for everyone who had their short blocks changed in recent times, none have come back to complain about consumption again. I trust the guy because he has never given me a hard time. Always answers my questions completely and respectfully. I tell him I'm going to start pushin the motor more, and his words were "go right ahead. Redline it, throw it into low gear and keep the RPM's high, do whatever you like." It made me laugh to hear a Nissan service manager tell me what they typically tell their customers not to do. But so far my new short block has held up very very well.

The 06 does have the standard HID's and LEDs which seriously make a difference in the way the car looks, especially at night. I've pulled behind 06+ Z's in my 03, and went damn.... I wish I had those freakin LED's man. They're just so damn sexy.

If I were you, I'd drive both cars before buying. You will, and I repeat, WILL feel the difference. The 03-05 (non revup) definitely feel as if they're faster and have a hell of a lot more torque even though it's basically a 10lb difference. The 06 revs up slower & you can feel the power throughout the entire range. It feels way different.

Drive both and see which one you like more.

I've driven all the motors. 03's DE, 06's RevUp, and 08 HR.

The HR takes the cake. Still not quite as torquey as the 03-05 DE's but most definitely torquier than the RevUp. Faster than both. I drove an 08 Nismo. I was pretty pissed because I had just bought the 06, and then I suddenly find an 08 Nismo with 2k miles on it selling for 30k. DAMMIT.

Thanks for reply man!

The 03 has 98k and the 06 has 91k... very similar, so its hard to justify 3000$ unless the car is overall in better shape. (its 10k vs 13k)

I hear mixed opinions... and I would imagine that 03-05 to be more fun with the torque but I guess the rev up would be slightly faster on the highway with added hp and RPM range

In my humble opinion, grab the 03. That's too many miles on an 06. No fear of consumption, either. Its well out of warranty, and you're screwed if it happens to be burning 1.5qts/3k miles or worse. You'll still have PLENTY fun with the 03. If anything, you can upgrade to 06+ tails & headlights as one of your mods. Then nobody will know you're driving an 03-05 edition unless you have stock rims
