LOL Yeah, I had someone ask me why I didn't buy a G35 after I just bought my Z. I told them, "Because I don't feel like paying 15K for a backseat."

I'm on a date with a cute little blond from my Z Club. We both have 350Zs.
I'm driving down the street and the light changes so I brake hard to avoid running the light. As I'm braking I'm making "air noises" like I have air brakes.
We stop in plenty of time and I say to her "Thank God I got the optional air brakes with this."
She responds with "I've never heard my brakes make that noise so I guess I don't have air brakes. Can I get the dealer to install them?"
Believe it or not she is one of the smartest people I know....just not about cars.

Blu Hvn, the dating section of the ‘Every Girl’s Handbook’ warns about guys with Touretts or guys who insist on making weird noises and sounds. I take it there wasn’t a second date!

Blu, I kid. You are a most clever and inventive devil

"Let me guess, this car has 350hp right? Since it's called the '350Z'?"

Nice try. LOL.

"How fast is it?"

That's always my favorite one.

As a detailer I always get "how much do you charge?"

Both questions drive me crazy.

350 or 370?
Those grounding wires must be for the turbo right?
Is it fast?
Can you drift it?
My (stock) hyudai tiburon is faster... HA (This is a friend of mine who I will be racing as soon as I get my cd009 put in)
There is a small sub behind my drivers seat and my dad thinks the guy before me removed the rear seats to put it.
Nobody understands my hood pins either...
It has full exhaust but its seriously the quietest car ive owned and people think its loud even when its just idling
This other guy was looking at an frs with the hood open and asked if it was a v6 or a v8

Some of these comments are wonderfully dumb (and therefore highly entertaining!), but most are just due to simple ignorance.
You've got to remember guys, the VAST majority of the population knows absolutely nothing about sportscars, or even cars period. How many little yuppie schmucks are there out there in nice BMW's, Benz's etc that don't even know how to change the oil (hell, many don't even have a clue how to open the hood or check their oil, lol)?? How intelligent one is is entirely dependant on the current geographic location and the topic at hand. Most people have some level of expertise in something, but very few of them have it in anything involving cars. To most folks a car is nothing but a means of transportation. They know how to put gas in it and operate it (notice I say "operate", not "drive"), but that's it. They could be WAY smarter than you, but know nothing (and care even less) about Z's.

On a side note, I have also received the "Nice Porsche" comment on a couple of occassions. What's even worse is I drive a roadster!! But I usually just take it as a compliment and don't bother trying to correct them --- especially if they are attractive and female!!!

I agreed with you until right there. You provided a perfect example of a stereotypical statement. Well written- but ignorant.

Agreed.
There are different levels of enthusiasts out there, and one need'nt necessarily be a grease monkey to be qualified to talk about it. However, you wouldn't take advice on neurosurgery from your local butcher, would you? Just chuck it and move on - why be so uppity about it? Cars just bring out a very over-excitable boyish side in most folks - they probably just say the damdest things.
