Default XM Satellite Radio

Can the XM radio Nissan offers be installed by the dealership or does it have to be ordered from the factory?

(I know this has probably been asked, but I can't search for the word XM. Don't yell at the newbie!)

Does the Satellite Radio antenna have to be installed on the roof? I thought there was an area just under the front dash where the GPS & Satellite Radio antenna's could be placed.

For the best reception and by Nissan's guidelines - yes.

The antenna can be placed almost anywhere, but you most certainly will sacrifice some reception quality. We have seen some creative installs and antenna placements, but all have been done outside our dealership.

Thanks for the info, but there is no way I could put up with the way that antenna is installed.

I had my antenna installed in the dash. I get great reception! Had my local stereo shop do the work.

I got XM radio as part of my deal when I bought the car. It was not installed when I took delivery. I have yet to get it installed because of the look of the antennae and the size of the unit.

I've seen pics of the antenna on the strut over in the audio/video forum. Those who have put it there say it works well, but I don't know if Nissan will put it there.

Yup, have mine stuck on the corner of my dash using 3M VelcroTape and no problems with reception.

Don't let Nissan do that to your vehicle for gods sake! Get it done at an A/V shop if you can. If you can't, have them wire it and install the antenna where YOU want it to be. (assuming you don't want it sticking off of your roof).

the antennae doesnt have to be on the outside of the car for good reception. ive got mine in the rear deck of my car under the window and i get great reception. only time i loose it is goin under big bridges or under gas stations roof things. btw...since we're on the subject. how does the XM w/ the 350 work? do you have to have the Delphi tuner mounted, or is the stock stereo on the 350 compatable w/ XM? does anyone have any pics of their XM tuner in the 350? i just hate having some gawdy piece mounted up on my dash, so i went ahead and bought a compatable head unit to go w/ my XM.

The 2004 Z Touring and Track have a Bose radio that is XM compatible. You get a little module that goes in the stereo and an antenna and you're in business. You access it on the radio button on the stereo. I've also seen the Delphi unit installed inside the NAV bin on some cars.

Here's a pic of it...Logically the module is the XM tuner.
