Default Higher mileage less performance? True or False?

I noticed that now my 03 corolla is at 109k miles it accelerates slower then it did when it had fewer miles. So I feel like it lost performance as it got around 100+k miles (Lol I know some will laugh saying what performance? It is a corolla, but still you know what I mean).

So I was wondering if you guys experienced this with the Z... The plan is to buy an 03 - 05 Z after winter with around 65k miles hopefully and was just wondering if this happens to the Z noticeably.

At 146k mine is doing pretty dam good. Nothing really noticeable in performance. Been a while since it was on the dyno, but would love to check.

Well as long as it isn't that noticeable I am fine with it.

have you changed the spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, maybe your cats are getting clogged up.try replacing some stuff and see what happens.

but the high mileage=less power all depends on how you treat the car. im at 140K and she still pulls hard. well as hard as a n/a z will pull haha but turba is going on in 2 weeks

Performance will definitely decrease if the engine is not maintained properly. Although, even with proper maintenance, everything wears. 109k on a modern Toyota is only about 1/2 way through its usable life though, assuming it's been cared for properly. Do a tune up, and check for any other issues. You shouldn't have a noticeable drop in power unless something is wrong.

Doing maintenance today, I do it regularly but I'll check up on those things you guys listed. Thanks.

This. If its maintained well, and happens to be a lucky engine with no problems it will go forever.

Clean/replace the air filter
Trying doing a fuel injector clean too.

A vehicle with 100,000 miles will require more upkeep than one with 50,000 miles. You will pay a premium for the vehicle with 50,000 miles now, but less for maintenance.

So pay now (price) or pay later (maintenance costs). There is no free lunch.

fuel pump, injector flow, p, fuel filter.. all affect performance and are rarely replaced.
I agree, tuneup items should be checked as well.

there are a few mileage threads here where the guys with high miles say that their Z's felt just like they did on day 1. Lots even reported that their cars felt better as the miles racked up. Don't worry about it.

No thanks. Either a Z or a GSXR 600 or a CBR 600. Those are my only options at this point The Z is on top of the list though.

Slight chance of a WRX but I highly doubt I can get one I like for my price range.

FYI - fuel filter never gets replaced in a 350. And not so sure about the fuel pump - pretty sure it either works or it doesn't. Injectors though can clog, for sure. My '03 with 113+ on the clock seems to pull as hard as ever though; don't need a dyno to tell me it is at least satisfactory - there is always a faster car.

first part of his post was talking about his corrola, i assumed he wanted info on both.

I know the fuel filter and pump dont get replaced on the Z, but i also dont think thats super great either. Nothing works the same on that kind of duty cycle for that long with out diminished capacity. Especially a fuel filter.

Unless NISSAN performed magic in that tank.. i still dont trust it at all.

Guess Ill know in a week when i pull the old pump assy out for the new stuff.

I dount it will look super pretty in my tank... gas sucks. Full of all kinds of crap and sediment.
ANyways i digress.

another thing that gives life back into an engine is doing a intake cleaning. warm the car up to normal temp, take off intake pipe from the throttle body and spray the intake cleaner into the throttle body. then get into car and press the accelerator down while cranking the engine. the car won't start at first but once it does watch all the carbon blow out the exhaust pipe. rev the engine a few times and then shut it off. repeat and then take the car out and give it a good acceleration test. hopefully car will feel alive again.

Thats a hard question for this group to answer with any real experience logic.
Why,because guys on this forum have done mods on their cars(engine).Especially,if a Zowner has over 100k on the clock, you can bet there are some adds on the power plant system. If you are talking,a stock-never modded Z--maintained well, the only comparitive
I have are a few other Nissans I've owned.Had a Pathfinder,over 200K miles.Ran just as strong as when I first bought it.
But,I take care of my cars.

My 05 base just turned over 106,000 miles. Car is stock and maintained... still runs proper all but needing new struts next year if I don't trade/sell it off for an 06-09 STI.

I am willing to bet its one of the very few out there that has 100k+ miles, still stock and looks like it has less than 20k miles on it lol!
