After reading about everyone's stories I would say I am pretty lucky.

My drivers side window started failing intermittently and I noticed it was temperature dependent. I took it apart and the bushing where gunked up in the channel they are supposed to freely slide in. They were not pushing onto the commutator like they should. I simply used electronic cleaning type spray to clean the brushes and I made sure they were able to slide easily. While I was there I took some fine sandpaper and lightly sanded the brushes and commutator. Its been two years and its been working just fine (fingers crossed) I have a 2004 350z with 111k miles.

Good luck OP!

Maybe in fifty years we can make them give us all new engines when those fail? Never had to replace one, but they go out on a bunch of cars (not just Zs). It's a moving part that is used every time you get into or out of the car, and our side windows are pretty huge compared to most cars. It will eventually wear out. If your under warranty, have Nissan fix it, if not, it's only about $100 to fix.

Is there a place to just buy the motor? Without the cord

2003 z and I have gone through 2 motors so far. And this third one looks like it is going to fail soon. All on the driver side.

Is it normal for the driver side window to fall down a set amount every time I pull the window lever all the way up?

Poor engineering! They knew the load and could calculate the frequency. No excuse there!

Mine failed at 34K miles and thanks to this forum i knew where to buy and how to do it

(I still love this car. Small problem compared to other makes/models )

44k no problems. personally i hope nissan doesnt give a crap aboiut window motors or other prissy crap, and keep their sports cars in the right direction, with no compromise for speed and handling.

also, if you think nissan has window and electronic issues you should own an american car for a few years. my 05 silverados' speedo doesnt work, the radio lights, oil pressure gauge, roof lamps, WINDOW MOTOR all dont work just to name a few things off the top of my head, but do i care? Hell no! the truck starts up and drives like the day i drove it off te lot new, and thats all that matters in my truck.

lastly, just so you can compare one company vs another, my grandfather is a ford guy (good motors) one of the fords would randomly die when moving and the brakes would completey be dead, luckily he was always going slow, but after he crashed it into a wall outside his house due to lack of brakes he got a refund. (it was a new hybrid ford). his ford trucks electricals randomly catch fire. as do my buddies 90's thunderbird.
Nissan does a great job IMO, when somethin fails its not a head scratcher,or firefight just an easy fix, keepin it simple and FAST.

Mine does that too, unless you hold it up until about a full second after the window is closed. And it will only stay up if the car is on and running, otherwise it will drop half way when the door is closed...

If it gets stuck in the down position just slam your door shut while holding the window up button.

works every time

Great. I am looking at buying an 03 Touring with less than 30k on it next week and he just emailed to say the passenger is slow to go up and sometimes does not.

Am I setting myself up for another VW experience with this car, ie things that are so basic and should be engineered properly but instead don't work worth a damn.

I thought that having a timing chain, no turbos, and Japanese engineering would absolve me from some of the major BS but is an out of warranty Z an unreliable daily?

Ive had less than $500 in repairs on my '03. Bought it new, have 120,000 on the clock. Two window motors (one under warranty), rebuilt throttle body and a couple of sensors sum total. No complaints here.

That gives me a bit more confidence in these.

Tired of the V.A.G. cars after on again off again flirtations with them. I don't care to be a guinea pig for an auto manufacturer any longer. Lol.

I will gladly take less soft touch and make you think things are done right materials for solid engineering.
