Default Show Nissan, the 350z window motors are crap

'08 350z @ ~27K Miles
in service since December 29th '08
2 window motors

For ease of data collection please form your post like mine, with car info on top, extra/personal experiences on the bottom. Thanks

----------------------

Howdy all,

My goal for his post is to see how many people have had issues with their 350z window motors. And present that info to Nissan.

'08 350z Base Bought @ 25,249 miles, presently @ ~27K Miles

So far I have owned the car for 5 months and had the following fail:
- Driver side window motor
- Pasenger side lock actuator
- Rear driver side wheel bearing
- Clutch
- Pasenger side window motor

My passenger window motor died 4 days outside warranty, after I brought the car in to the dealership 2 months earlier told them it had intermitant issues when it's cold. They of course brought it into the garage let it sit there for ~40min while it warmed up, then tested it, and said they had no issue. I said thank you kindly (while gritting my teeth at their incompetance and ineptitude) and left....

Now I'm leaving the state on Monday and have a window motor stuck in the down position (YAY). I am waiting on Nissan to see if they care if I am completely burned out on their vehicles and if they want to keep me as a customer

A man who owned a '07 after hearing my driver side window would not go up on the third day I owned it, told me the motors are crap, and between the two windows he has replaced the motors 5 times....

THE END

I've had both pass/driver window motors replaced once at around 40k miles. I'm at 93xxx miles now without issue.

Here's a great thread to help you out in the future:

No plans for that, but if enough people start showing a pattern of repetitive and alarming failure, I'm not opposed to it. Mostly I am collecting data since it since it seems a real enough issue that I would like to have a thread consumers can point to when asking Nissan to back up their products.

The 350z is a great car that seems to be plagued with one thing always failing here or there. The '03 tranny issues, RevUP oil consumption, '07 CSC leak/return issues. This Car has gone through too many revisions to have so many issues. I love the Z cars old and new I think they are fantastic but I am losing confidence in buying Nissan automobiles. I have had way to many issues with my Z in the time I have owned it. Slightly above one part failure per month ownership...

also, from my experience, the customers that buy those rebuilt window motors typically come back within 6-8 months because they stopped working/get stuck/etc.....

Longest lasting ones are the new ones from the dealership

Dont really think you can blame Nissan on your clutch, battery, and maybe the rear wheel bearing issues, seeing as how you bought the car used.

Dunno how the previous owner treated the car....

Nissan does track window repairs and window motor sales. Obviously they see a trend, but have decided not to engineer, manufacture and buy new motors. Maybe they have 50,000 motors on the shelf. One of the best places to file a complaint is: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

lol, maybe not but you got to admit that all of them failing does not bode well for the manufacture. Besides how are you going to put battery in a list of items the previous owner could have contributed to the degradation of? Did he "use the battery really "hard" lol... I get that it could have been drained and depleted yada yada but I think it's a bit ridiculous. I'm going to have my old OEM pressure plate tested to see if that was the cause of clutch failure.

Wow, 8 years after this problem first surfaced you actually believe Nissan is going to do anything. That have done something, the later models don't seem to have this problem.

It's not a safety related issue so there no reason to go back via recall or other service campaign and "fix" this problem.

Replaced twice, only once under warranty. The other cost me around $500.00. Also had to replace my slave cylinder twice on my '08. Clocked at 21,000 miles right now and barely even drive but to and from work.

Did you miss my DIY on how to replace it? The actual motor runs alittle over $100...

I have over 60K on my 08 with no problems. I guess I'm just lucky. I better knock on wood!

I just moved and had zero tools at the time. Plus it was already in the shop for the slave cylinder and to add more bolt ons and other parts, so I just said fug it. If it happens again I have everything to fix now.

Hell, you're right down the street from me, I should have screamed for your help.
