Registration Fees

In CA, there is registration fee and then there is the VLF (Vehicle License Fee) which is a personal property tax (the VLF is the only part you get to deduct on your taxes). In CA, the VLF is 2% of the current value of the vehicle. We've had a "VLF Offset" for the last several years that cut the VLF amount to 1/3rd of the original amount. Gov Davis allowed the "VLF Offset" to expire thus "trippling the car tax". The new gov has reinstated the "VLF Offset". I too purchased my Z at the full VLF amount. Can't wait to get my $452 refund of the excess VLF amount next year.

But we also have great highways always being resurfaced.

5% is the taxes, not the registration fee. The reg. fee for a 350Z is 65.00 per year, and we pay it every 2 years, or 130.00 per renewal period.

It's to be refunded via a check sometime early next year according to the CA DMV website. There's no need to file anything to receive the refund, again according the the DMV website. The last I heard on the news was there was a debate as to where the funds for the refunds would be allocated/paid from. Now that CA collected the fee in tax year 2003 and then refunds it in tax year 2004, that will play some havoc with tax return. If you show it as a deduction in TY 2003 for the full VLF amount collected, you'll need to offset any VLF collected in TY 2004 by the refund amount you'll be receiving.

It'll be nice to get the cash. I actually bought 2 Z's this year. HeHe
I traded the first one a SB 04 Touring 5AT (owned it for one week) for the Z I have now. (see sig)
