Why are people so stuck on 1/4 mile and 0-60 times?

Default The 1/4-mile trap speed is a good indicator

now my personal favorite statistic is 5-60. take all driver skill and launch out of it, and just see which car has the *****. maybe not the best race for real life since drivers skill is all we have. but for daily driving I like to know the car will go whenever I tell it too.
Exactly! The 1/4-mile trap speed is a pretty good indicator of a car's acceleration performance; not affected too much by launch/driver.

if your a "mere" 1-2 seconds behind in a 1/4 mile, then yes that is a big difference. its only a quarter mile, and if your that far behind after only that short of a distance, then your car should be considered slow when compared to the car that just beat ur car.

90% of the people that bought a Z didnt buy it ONLY because of its looks. they bought it because not only did it look great, it had enough stock power to make most owners happy and with all its options it could be luxerious. most cars its one or the other...you either get speed in a redneck like package and nappy interior or luxery in a comfortable ride and unresponsive gas pedal, but never a good mixture of both. the z is a perfect mix of speed and luxery.
what i dont understand is, how do people say a car is "fun" to drive. regular street driving is pretty boring, unless you get on the gas every now n then to pass up a few cars. a responsive gas pedal is fun.

of course you can always make it faster which is always nice.

Plain and simple, the guys who complain about people with better 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times are usually the ones who suck at racing the 1/4 mile and can't launch the car. Its like the guys who try to tell themselves that "size does not matter" they are only trying to make themselves feel better for their own short comings. If you could care less about 1/4 mile times then don't comment on it. Make your car look pretty or install a killer sound system and realize that you have a different goal with your car than those who care about 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times.

1 or 2 measley seconds in the 1/4 is nothing?

That's the difference between the Z and a honda civic. Also a Z and a viper! I'd say it's no difference too The only true racing figures that matter are 1/4, auto x, and track times. No 'real' racers care if the car is faster on the freeway (although I've never raced anybody on the street from a dig ) .
