Default 3.9 final gears along with stillen v3 set up ?

Hi all ,

Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong section .

I have the stillen v3 kit on my HR 350z and running around the 400whp with the 9lb pulley .

One of my next mods will be the quaife diff . I am also considering the 3.9 final gears at the same time as the diff swop .

Does anyone run these gears with a charger ? ( I know big blue does ) do they work well with the added power from the charger ?

I don't 1/4 mile my car and not one for off the lights racing . I'm interested in acceleration say from 30-120 ..... Will running these gears be quicker than my standard ( 3.5? ) final gears ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated , especially from people with first hand experience with them .

Josh

Nice pics of family and the car! I know that the 3.9 fd is right in my wheel house as far as I'm concerned; love it.

Have been doing a bit if reading and it looks as though you can still achieve over 60 in 2nd ( just ) and around 97 in 3rd .......

Decisions decisions

Anyone else you know of running them with FI ? I can see why you wouldn't want them if TT or big HP but for my application I can see the benefit ......

I have stock gears in my 03 6MT with only 300whp(fixing my tune for about 30hp more) and would like longer gears. 4th gear redlines at the end of the quarter and I rather not have another shift. /Shrug. Also 1st gear is pretty useless

Personal preference. I had the Central 20 3.9 final drive on the Z when I bought it. It is a single turbo, and I normally run a street tune map 450rwhp at 14psi. I did not like it, and bought a used 3.5 with LSD from local LKQ autoparts to replace it with. On average, the 3.9 runs the engine 300rpm more than the 3.5, so at highway cruising you are at 3300rpm most the time. The 3.9 made the car jump, as the torque delivery to wheel was higher earlier in each gear. Made it hard to ever hook up once boost hit - in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. 1st gear was not much use. A good aftermarket 1.5 way LSD helps, then you spin both tires. Like some of the other turbo guys, I'm actually thinking of getting a 3.3 rear end from an automatic if one appears at LKQ (it was only $85, so great deal on complete rear end).

Ok all good info , and it confirms that they don't really work with turbo applications or higher ftlb cars ..... My power delivery is very linear and only run 360ftlb ( at the fly ) so I wouldn't have thought this would be an issue with jumping etc ......

Another Option is to get a larger diameter rear tire and/or raise the Rev Limiter 500RPM.

As having one of the best stock engines/tune in the world you have no problem going over stock limiter and although my limiter is non-existent(Utec redline only works sometimes or maybe only at WOT...), I rather not go much higher than stock redline since my car makes less power and I just don't trust it enough.
