Default Keep Mustang or Trade in for 350z?

Im sure I will probably get biased answers being this is a 350z forum but i would love someone to explain the pros and cons to me. Right now I have a 06 V6 Mustang and Ive been looking into mods for the mustang. The thing is, its just a V6 and it would take a ton of money in Mods to just equal a GT. Ive always loved the 350z and want to know if its worth trading in my V6 for a 350z? Would I notice any power difference? is the 350z easier/cheaper to Mod?

What it boils down to is a couple of my friends I work with both have S2000s and one is supercharged. I get made fun of on a daily base because my mustang is a V6. I just want to mod my mustang or trade it in for a 350z and mod that to be competitive against them.

Can a 350z compete with S2000s on both the track and drag strip?
Is it worth trading in a V6 Mustand for a 350z?
If I did trade in for a 350z, What would it take to keep up with a S2000 if possible?

Things I want to accomplish:

I want the car to look good, sound good, and be fast. I doubt id ever race with it but id like the option to keep up with my friends S2000s. My Budget would be mods here and there. I dont think I could ever drop 5k in one sitting on a supercharger/TT but thats always a possibility I could look into.

Thanks in advance!

Keep the Mustang. It's faster, looks sexier, and handles much better than a 350Z.

I am not sure how old you are.... but I think you should reevaluate why you want to mod your car/trade it in.... if it’s just because you get made fun of that is a terrible reason...

If it’s because you want to keep up with a 14 second car(obviously I am not referring to the SC one) then do a bit of research on this site, and on some on mustang sites and you should find the answers to all of your questions.. and be able to make a decision.

350z should be faster then the 06 mustang v6 especially in the turns. Mods will not be cheaper, if anything they will cost the same. As far as handling, the 350z is light powerful and very nimble because of its weight balance, it also stops very well with stock brakes. With a little bit of driving skill the 350z can put many other sports cars to shame. However you would loose interior space.

its not really being made fun of its more along the lines of showing off lol. Im 25 in the military and we really have nothing better to do but shoot **** with each other. Like I said above, I love the looks of the 350z and would love to cross over. Is there a big difference between V6 Mustang and a 350z? Should I just try and trade up to a GT for a V8?

Also it all boils down to wanting the fastest car it seems like at work. 2 guys have S2000s, a couple of mustangs, and another has a camaro SS. My stock V6 Mustang is just depressing to look at everytime I drive into work haha. The main guys with the biggest egos are the 2 S2000s and would love to knock them down a few levels if you know what I mean.

Im about half way threw my deployment and when I get home I plan to either start modding my V6 Mustang or want to trade it in for something else.

Im open to suggestions, tips, anything!

honestly just get a newer 5.0 mustang then... it is an amazing value for money... and will crap on all the cars you mentioned, even the supercharged s2000 depending....

the older GT's are meh, not very impressive....

the 350z handles great, but as far as 1/4 mile goes ( I am assuming this is what you care moreabout ), its not that great, it does not respond well to bolt-ons and is costly to modify. The DE motor Z's run mid-high 13's stock with decent drivers....still enough to edge out a stock s2000

if you do get a Z, then go for the HR motor(2007 and up), the quickest of the group, responds better to bolt-ons and can run mid-low 13's stock. Can easiy walk an s2000 and should be close to the newer SS

I dont have 30k+ to afford a new 5.0 mustang sadly. Im looking more for a used car that can be modded over a period of time.

Really I would say **** the tools with the S2000's. You're Mustang is a great car and can easily compete with a S2000. Buy a car because you want one not to try and be faster than idiots you work with. That being said your Mustang is probably cheaper to modify for power.

At the track an S2k is faster than a 350Z (because of superior handling) but it's also harder to drive. At the novice level, you have a good chance of beating a novice S2K driver. Once an S2k driver figures out how to milk that last little bit out of his car (from behind the wheel, not talking about mods) it's a little faster than the Z. (Don't have a lot of experience at the drag strip, so not sure there)

Both the 350Z and the S2k are faster than a V6 mustang. (At least on a track that requires use of the steering wheel.)

To impress others? No. If you take a financial hit in the process, the "ooOOooo.....aahhhhh" reaction from your friends will wear off quickly and the hole in your wallet will still be there.

On a track with turns, (car wise) stuff that improves handling, because that's where the S2k has it's edge over the Z.

Buying a car just to look good and "keep up with my friends" is a bad idea.
Keep the Mustang.
YOU ARE NOT Z MATERIAL.

My answer is super biased, but the Z is superior to the ford any day. Looks style, reliability, and wow factor.

Everyone and their grandmother has a mustang.

PS go for the HR engine if you have the option.

keep the Mustang, unless you're looking to trade it in for an Evo or a WRX. Even if you trade you Mustange in for a 350Z, you still gonna lost.

The fact is that it's hard to beat high-performance FI car with an N/A car. Even if you got a 370Z, you still gonna lost to a supercharged S2000. If you "really" want to beat your friend supercharged S2000 without spending a lot, look for a used MR2 turbo.

if you trade in for whatever car and win those s2k's, you will soon confront faster car. Then you trade in for faster. Then you would get into accident, total your car, and end up broke.
buying cars to show off you will quicky get bored. Just stay w mustang and give finger to haters. Live long and wise.

If you're so concerned about what your friends think then buy an s2000... At that point waht can they really say. Please don't get a z and get walloped by a fi s2000 and allow it to burn you from the inside out.

With that..I love the way the s2000s look and tried to buy one but the complete and utter lack of torque killed it for me. It felt like a civic up to about 6500rpm. You have to drive like an ashhole to enjoy it and even then it doesnt feel that fast. Not to say the 350z is fast or anything but atleast imo its more fun on a daily basis.

gts are slow... slower then the 350, if you have about 15-20k you can get an 03-04 cobra with <100k miles. The 03-04 cobras will beat that FI s2k and they are sick

get rid of your car so you can one up the rest of your battle buddies? I would keep the car even though I hate mustangs and just replace the people I choose to hang out with instead since its cheaper, but thats just me.

Boosted Z's are fun as hell but expensive as hell too. I never heard of anyone boosting a Z for > 5k

wow lots of posts. Thanks for all the replys.

Im dont want to buy a car just to show off. I know there will always be faster cars but the cars of my concern are the ones I work with. Im not happy as I thought I would be when I bought the Mustang. I need something new. I dont have 15-20k to spend. I could trade in my 06 mustang which retails around 10-11k so trade in would be around 8k. I could obviously finance the extra money I needed for the car so thats no problem.

I came to these forums because I really love the looks of the 350z. A Midnight Blue 350z with a sick spoiler is what I picture in my eyes. Other cars I like the looks of is the EVO but they are crazy expensive. The reason I love the EVO is pretty much only because its AWD but from my research, AWDs are heavier and lose at lot of HP.

Im sorry I came off like i only want a new car to impress. Its just i want to upgrade my sports car and if im going to do it and mod it then I want to get a have decent car that can slap my friends around. Its just my way of jusifing my reasons behind getting a new car.

I am married with 3 kids but we already have a family car. While the 4 doors of an EVO would be nice in case I did want to tag kids along. Im really in love with the 350z looks. I was going to buy an 04 350z from a dealer and when I came back the next day he sold it on me...all he had left was the V6 Mustang and ive regretted my impulse decision ever since then.

Please help me with this

Edit: what does HR mean? is the a type of 350z?
