I drove a drop-top for 5 years ('97 MIts Eclipse Spyder GS-T), and I am glad to be rid of it. While the wind-through-your-hair thing is fun, and it was a great car to drive, the added maintenance hassle, excessive road noise (with the top up), the paranoia of worrying some jackass would slash your top to grab $30 in used CD's, and the water pouring in through the inevitable leaks during the rain got to be a pain.

You know, this thread illustrates what I felt we had been missing for some time: a sense of humor. I'm not even to page two and I've had several good belly laughs (if I had a belly.

My dislikes: having PETA activists protest my car for the senseless murder of antique sharks for the interior door panels...

Not that I want to dignify s2kpower's trolling with a response, but the response to the "its too heavy" comment was best made by someone on this board a while back. It went something like this: A Ferrarri 360 Modena is also a lot heavier than an S2000, Miata, MR2, etc. Bigger, more powerful cars tend to be heavier than smaller, less powerful ones: go figure. Sorry I don't know who to credit for this comment, but it is very relevant.

Today I parked my 350Z next to a Miata at work, and looking at the two cars next to each other, it was astounding how much larger the 350Z is. That translates to decent interior room and makes the car a more enjoyable place to be. And, yes, it has a much bigger and more powerful and torquey engine. True, the Corvette is bigger and has a more powerful engine still, and it's a few pounds lighter, but it's also about $20,000 more (I won't go into any further comparisons because they are very different cars in many ways).

Some people like tiny little open-topped go-cart-like rides with small revvy engines, and they get Miatas, S2000s and MR2 Spyders. Others like larger, more powerful sports cars with more torque that can still handle exceptionally well: for us there are 350Zs. It's all good -- what's there to fight about? It's personal preference. Why these S2000 lovers feel they have to come on here and tease and whine about the fact that this car is heavier is absolutely beyond me. The only thing I can figure out is that these people are extremely immature and it makes them feel important or somehow superior.

Phil, you love it, admit it.

I can relate to everything you said! I dont have my Z yet, but I had the first TT on the block three years ago, and I couldnt take it anywhere! I still get weird stares and thumbs up.. Kinda neat, but after year one, it gets old. On those days, I wear sunglasses. It must be about 5% of what its like to be a moviestar.

This is the thing I fear the most, that is why I'm keeping my 2000 celica gts for everyday driving. Even then I'm paranoid.

3) I though your car is your own little private space. I've found out.... that you can't no longer pick your own damn nose at your leisure. Everyone is looking at you. You have to act as though this kinda stuff happend all your life and things like this is a total norm in your life.
I went through the same phase when I first got my celica when it was brand new and only 1 other celica in my side of oklahoma city.

5) Can't go drive through anymore. These high school kids keep asking me if this is "350ZX" or "New 300Z" or "New Porsche". Soon after that, about 10 zit faces show up in 2x3 drive through window. Again, I have to act as though this totally normal thing for me.
I again went through the same thing with my celica... only the damn zit-faced kid asked if it was the new eclipse...

Next to the Z, the Mustangs especially and even the Corvette looks somewhat dated - I didn't feel that way before I got mine but do so now. That's not to say the Corvette isn't a fine car - I'd be proud to own one. it's just that I'd rather drive to my high school reunion in a Z more than a Corvette - the Z would get more attention at least right now.

Default Digital Speedo is Correct

I know for a fact that the digital speedo is in fact correct at normal speeds.
My town's police department spent my taxes on a radar gun with a display (all built ona trailor). It is to show passing vehicles how fats they are going of the speed limit. I drove by it the other day and noticed that the digital speedometer was the exact readout as the display on the radar gun. I was doing 38 so maybe at a faster speed it might have a slight error factored in.

Default You Are Under The Microscope..

I tell you, if you have a 350Z and you are in a hurry, drive something else.. I had a lot of errands to run on Monday & I knew that I had little time to do them in, so I drove my QX4. Don't think that I am overexaggerating this, because when I come out of banks, grocery stores, church, resturants, ***** houses, etc. there is a crowd of people around my car.. They not only want to look at it, but they want you to open it up, start a forum of topics about it, ask if it is the new 300Z, ask if it is the new Lexus, does the top come off, was it $60,000, what do I do for a living, does the wheels come like that, (20"), what color is it, how fast does it go, how fast have I gotten it up to (asked by 3 cops), and a host of other questions. My potna & I was gonna try to figure out how to install a FAN-CAM in them. He calls me & tells me the fan stories that he had that day & I tell him if it tops any of mine. I have almost ran people into parked cars trying to catch up to me in traffic, my partner told me that a sherriff's bus full of inmates pulled up to him on a freeway offramp & the door swung open & the deputy was asking all kinds of questions about it, while the inmates looked on.

Did you sign autographs too? haha

That's kick *** though, but annoying at the same time!

Gotta live with that celebrity status for awhile. You are the talk of the town and everyones gonna be telling their friends and family members they talked to the guy in the 350z!

Default I even hear about my car when I am not in it.

I have even dissappointed people when they see me, or I am expected to come somewhere for a meeting or even to get accessories for it & I am not driving it, because by the time I get there, there is a group of people awaiting my arrival

That is happening to me, too. I had several errands to run and I took my wife's Maxima because I would still be out and away from home as I write this from people asking me questions. I actually wish some more Zs will start showing up to take the pressure off me. I am very proud of my impeccable taste in puchasing a new Z, but, Jesus! trying to be polite and answer everyone's questions is like being a movie star for a day every time I take it out.

My 91MR2 Turbo was one of the first in my area and I got questions and admiration, but nothing close to the Z and I loved showing the MR2T off and telling admirers all the good stuff it had. The attention I get about the Z is at a whole new level, like I just drove up in a brand new Ferrari or something easily as exotic. Ease up people, its a very nice car, but it isn't the Mona Lisa; close, but no cigar.

Boomer--Pooh2002, if you read this, Ihaven't forgotten my promise, we just had a lot of rain and my wife's aunt, her mother's last sibling out of 10 kids had surgery for cancer this morn. It was good news so things can get back to normal and you WILL get your pics, especially the interior.

That was me.

My post was exactly about this point, the 350Z is about 400 pounds heavier than the S2000, but the engine being nearly twice as large is probably responsible for a good portion of that weight. Also the Z is larger in EVERY way.

Not to put the Z down, but the extra weight does work against it on the track where lighter is always better, but look at the NSX and the 911 they are within a few pounds of the Z, and I don't hear anyone calling them bloated pigs.

Those are the dumbest things. Here in MD we have to have them, probably to make photo tickets easier. Half the cars here are out of state anyway. I wish we could do away with them.
