Default Another "Should I buy a Z" question

Hey Guys/Gals,

Newbie here. I currently own a 2003 Eclipse Spyder GT, but the Z has been slowly getting more and more interested. Don't get me wrong, I love my Spyder, but the Z has that "Grrrrrrrr" look. I'm 27 going on 28 and I think the Sypder maybe a little under my age group. Feel a little childish sometimes driving it. That's just me I guess

Anyway, just wondering if anybody has some good / bad info on the Z.

Overall handling, Fit Finish, etc, etc.

I'm interested in the Z Track.

you can spend a day reading posts here about all the things that have been causing people problems with their Z....

Check the "Repairing" forum for that, but also info in the other forums.

Here's my $0.02 worth

I have a Track model Z that I bought in January, 2003. I have 12,400 miles on it. I bought it because I attend 8 to 10 driving events a year at various tracks in and around Texas and wanted an upgrade to my Audi A4.

The Z offered best bang for the buck for me, plus I've always wanted a Z car.

Bone stock this car is a huge imprvement over the A4... and my A4 had everything modded. In the past year I have made some modifications to the Z, but it is very capable as-is from the factory.

The Z is not very practical, which is where my wife's Honda Civic comes into play! The Z is great fun to drive and gets a lot of attention. Just yesterday at the carwash three different people stopped to look at the car and talk to me about it.

Check out my feeble attempt at a webpage for more info about my car's problems and repairs... www.peterhaas.net

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check out the Repairs section.

All in all though, are you happy with the purchase? I mean all cars have problems. My Spyder is an 03 and the windows leak, and there is a rattle in the dash. Oddly enough, about the same place yours does!

yes yes yes definetly buy one... its much more classy than an eclipse and you cant get more attention in a car for the price. If you do buy try and get an 04.5 cause it seems that most of the problems in the 03 have been fixed. true it is not that practical but your 27 and nows the time to be unpractical. im sure theeres not as much room as in your eclipse, but as long as you dont have big objects such as tv's to move theres plenty of space. Ive moved myself in and out of college in one trip several times now. youd be surprised. performance is fantastic. 1/4 in 14 and 0-60 in 5.5. handles like its on rails and baring a snowstorm can be driven all year. one of the best bangs for the buck, but if your looking for something a little more practical get a G35 coupe, nearly the same performance as the Z in a little more upscale packagewith 2 extra seats.

PS... i think some here are a tad annoyed at some of the problems but it is a new car. i think most are happy with their purchase including myself, I know if i had gotten any other car i would have been disatisfied every time i saw a Z pass. Also when you own a Z you own a car with heritage and a fan base. Whenever i see another Z driver especially 350 on the road i always get a wave or a flash of the headlights you know. that kind of stuff along with the stares and comments really makes you feel like you own something special!

schlep keep in mind that it's a GIVEN that you will hear problems...in every forum about every car. don't exclude the PROs

as for me....do i love it or what!...just one minor whisping sound coming from the drive side window...but i love this fairlady!....only if had the deniro to dish out more cash to "supe" it up.

I am very satisfied with my purchase. The car is just a blast to drive and so much fun at the track. I've even tried to talk friends who are car shopping into buying the Z.

Cheers,

I owned an eclipse gst spyder, it was fun but the build quality was very very low. I love the Z so much more, its not even funny. You will like the Z much more, but it doesent have those 2 back seats.

The price was the problem with the roadster for me. When I was looking to purchase my Z, roadsters were commanding 10k markups in Jersey. You should be ok now, but I would go with the coupe just because I feel the lines are much nicer.

I don't think the Z makes the greatest convertible with the top up (which is 75% of the time where I live). When the top is down, it's the nicest looking car I've seen in some time.

Working for Nissan, I had my choice of the 350Z, G35 Coupe and even had a soft spot for the Subaru WRX but in the end, the Z's pure animal magnetism won me over.
I don't have any regrets, have had very few problems in the year and a half I've had the car and I definitely have a smile on my face every time I pull onto the road.
