Default How u drive at traffic ?

I juz got my 06 z just for 1 week as my first manual car. Today I drive it at work at freeway, and there is traffic really bad at sf. I have a few question , when I'm at speed about 15 I think , and I want to shift to 2nd and it won't go in . Actually I'm not sure how fast I'm goin ,I juz feel like the shift gate is close at a certain speed . Is it true ? And another is when I'm at freeway and rolling like speed 5 or 10 should I keep at 1 or 2 for keep mpg ? Last question is when the car is going and I floor the clutch , is it going to hurt the car ? Or no matter how fast the car is going as long as the clutch is floored, it won't hurt anything !

The only reason i could see you not being able to shift from 1st to 2nd at this speeds would be you're not pressing the clutch in far enough

There are no lockouts or shift gates to contend with.

The Z is so torquey in low gears, I'd say shift to 2nd rather than driving in 1st.

No problem pressing the clutch in and coasting at any speed.

Drive your z around in second like Dave said, its got the torque to get up and go. Make sure you have the clutch pressed down all the way when trying to shift, the Z transmission is touchy.

You shouldn't have any issues shifting to second if the car is already moving.

I understand what you mean, i have that experience from time to time. when shifting from 1st to 2nd like that at ~15mph in traffic, you put the clutch down and lose revs. just clutch and slide the stick to second, if it feels "closed" give the throttle a a little blip (small rev) while applying pressure to the stick into 2nd gear with clutch on floor; should just pop right in.

clutch in
pull to 2nd/blip throttle
engage second and release clutch.

It is times like these that I am glad I got an auto Z. But all the time other than this, I regret it.

Exactly, the only advantages I see with autos is that you can easily eat and drive, talk on the phone, and get road head comfortably, other than that, I choose my 6MT anyday over A/T.

My 06 is butter into second from any mph ive tried (can do it between 7mph and 20+) literally a two finger push. Second to first it feels locked out the faster your going and easier the slower. Which makes sense.
Im interested in what 6 speed trans nissan is using (im not a tranny re/builder so i dont know) t56ish maybe. I think maxima 5spds' are t5 trannies like the audi's, volvos, jeeps and early camaros.
Op try shiftin the stik slower, maybe it will be smoother and softer. The faster i shift the more pressure i usually have to apply.

It's a Nissan transmission. Not even close to a T56.

My buddie's GTO has the T56 and we put a B&M short shifter in it to try and save the big swimmy floop d!ck style stick and it only made it hell.

Yeah some sticks do feel like your trying to swim in your seat. And i figured since some 300zx's used t5s nissan might outsource to them again. (like they outsource to rays wheels on certain models.) but i guess nissan makes their own trannies now.

I believe he is noticing the cars natural defense against grinding gears. You can put the car into any gear you would like- but like most stick shifts its harder to put into some gears at certain speeds. I have noticed it in my last 3 vehicles. It doesnt just full into place its more of a forced gear shift.
