I have no idea what a "hovering" sound is. Sound sare hard to diagnose over a forum, so best to either record the sounds for us or just take it to a shop.

The first thing I would do is look underneath the car. If you ran over a tree branch (or anything else), and it got hung up underneath it could make that kind of noise. If there is nothing obvious, then it could be the transmission. If automatic, it could be low on transmission fluid. Beyond that, a mechanic would be your best bet.

On the other hand, if you are unable to find the problem, and the hovering sound persists, then your next best option would be to look on the roof to see if anyone has painted words like "Police Helicopters Eat Twinkies".

Bad tire more than likely. From the description sounds like the old feathering problem, although that was only on front tires.

Possible. No, it's not just the front tires that can be out of line. The rear axles are independent, and require Camber & Toe-in adjustments. The Caster can also be affected if the rear axles are not "trailing" properly. Here is a link to Factory Service Manuals: http://www.courtesyparts.com/owners-manuals.php

I hope that helps...if not, check the roof.
