How about if I put the liscense plate where the grille is? I've seen it done on Altimas and it wasn't that bad.

YES you must have a front license plate! NO you cant put it in your windhield.

the grill area isnt wide enough for a license plate. the distance from the bottom lip to the bumper is less than 6" i think.

I've asked my dealer NOT to install the front license plate bracket. I plan on making a mount with there bracket and installing it thru the removeable towing fixture mount. It looks easy and will solve the problem. By the way, you would have to remove the front plate to inatall the towing hook anyway..

I live in NY and I am not putting on a front plate. I drove my DeLorean, my 300Z, and my RX-7 for years without a front plate.

Bad part is if you get caught speeding, or a parking violation, you will also get a No Front Plate $50 a pop, worth it.

If you drive without a front license place, a cop can pull you over and search your car in NY. Yes, you heard me correctly. In fact, during ANY traffic stop, a cop can search the interior of your car. So, without a front plate, you can be pulled over at any time. This may bother some; others may not care. Just for your reference...

The only way that an officer can do a interior searchis if he/she has reasonable suspicion that there is a crime commited (read not a violation). Some justifiable examples for searching a car would be something illegal in plain sight or if you fit the description of a suspect, or if someone is yelling help out of your trunk!
Otherwise, the officer can ask you to search the car. You can say rightfully no, but I am sure that you will then get evey summons availible.

In conclusion, No officers cannot search cars on a violation stop without further justification, but yes a missing front plate is good reason for you to get unneeded attention. Many times, if an officer sees a young person, or sadly a minority in the driver's seat at late hours, they want to pull them over, and a missing plate is good enough reason to. So it is not worth it if you do not want to find yourself often being pulled over for trivial things.

I never put a front plate on my Audi TT, and I got stopped twice in three years.

The first time I told him that the bracket arrived broken and becuase the car was new they were having trouble ordering one! hehe That lie only works for a few months though.

The second time, the guy was just nice and said something about how he knows that guys with sports cars dont like messing up the front of their cars with plates... Coolest cop I ever met.. Still got the speeding ticket he stopped me for though!

you are required to have front plates in most states. I know North Carolina does not. But in NYC, cops will usually bust your ***** about not having a plate. What I would suggest is that you buy a license plate frame, hammer the **** out of it and keep it in your trunk with the front plate.

When the cop pulls you over just say that you found your plate on the floor when you pulled out of the parking lot. And then just tape it on for a quick pic and send in to traffic violations.

My situation is a bit different. The car is registered in New Jersey but i mostly live in my apt in Queens NY, so cops in ny can't ticket me for no plates if i am out of state.
