Default 350 in the snow

If you have to drive the Z in the snow, what do you guys find is the best way to do it.
How much weight is to much to add to the back. Any input would be greatly appriciated.

Change your wheels/tires to a set made for snow. like 17" wheels + snow tires.

do not drive your Z in the snow with the stock tires, since they are Summer Tires, not all season. Even all season tires would have some trouble in the Z.

there are so many posts on this forum about someone crashing while driving their z in the snow. don't let this be you next.

Thanks for the reply. I dont drive it in the snow. I usually take a cab. Today I took it to work. I got a cab home, now I am freaking out because my poor baby is sitting out in a parking lot getting snow on it, with those crazy snow plow drivers driving all around the thing.

Honestly how much a difference does snow tires make. What about sand in the back, how much is too much.

I'd NEVER put SAND in the back of the Z...

IF you must drive your baby in the winter, get a set of BLIZZAKs. There are a LOT of threads here about them.

The snow tires make a big difference from my experience. I still had my stock tires on during the frigid early days of November, and even without snow, you could notice a difference in grip due to temperature. Those stock tires are strictly for warm weather duty...when the temperature drops, they turn into 17-inch hockey pucks.

I got caught in a snowstorm with my Blizzaks on just before Christmas, and I was very impressed with their performance. As long as you don't drive stupid, they make a huge difference in handling. I seemed to be having an easier time of it in the snow than some of the SUVs around me.

Never tried putting sand in the back, but I don't think I'd want to...it would just be too much of a pain to clean if the bag breaks

traction is traction. laws of physics say it doesnt matter what is riding on the tires. it is only as good as the traction the rubber makes with the ground.

the fact that its RWD and powerful doesnt help. but no car would have a chance with those tires.

It depends on where you buy them to some extent...online shops like Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct often have pretty cheap prices...I got mine at a local shop that had a lowest price guarantee. I also got a set of beater rims to go with them, which makes the changeover provess much easier when the seasons change. My best advice to you would be to shop around...I've seen tire/rim packages go from anywhere from about $900 to as high as $1400.

The snow tires are worth the money unless you have another car that can handle the snow. Even with snow tires, RWD cars arent made for the snow. A 350 in the snow does 360's all over the place.

Just wanted to mention that not only are the stock tires bad in the snow or rain, but when they are cold they suck too. Many times the tail breaks out on me with not water or ice on the road, its just VERY VERY cold here in NY. My BMW is the same.

It makes a huge difference. Night and day. As had been noted by many others, the stock tires are not for snow, period. Sand in the back will not make much of a difference. If you want to drive frequently and/or safely in snow, the only real options are snow tires or another car.

If you were to purcahse some blizzaks, where would you go to install them and uninstall them evey time the seasons change? I would think its a huge hassle

also where would you carry your tires in the car? lol

Changing tires is not that much of a problem to do twice a year. I would just store them in my basement.

Snow, What snow?

It's only snow if you acknowledge it.
