I asked that and they told me it legally has to go auction :/
I'm still looking really hard trying to find the perfect match for me. Been looking all over Texas, I wouldn't mind an HR. Sorry if I've been slow or non-responsive to some of your posts, busy last couple of days.

wtf, if wonder if they are telling the truth or just saying that. In cali ive never heard of a car having to go to an auction after an accident and its been considered "totaled" by insurance. I would ask around because that one person can just be a total idiot that told you so.

Sometimes they will only let it go to auction. When I got in an accident they told me to simply keep the car. Really depends on your insurance provider and how it's spelled out.

That's the one appealing to me right now, except for the fact it's a 2006 and I know they burn oil, correct? That and cloth seats, but I will probably replace anyways. Seems a little overpriced to me but I may be wrong. Plus I'd have to do service on it pretty soon after buying it. What do you guys think?

If you are set on buying a new Z soon, I would suggest buying the month-long unlimited CARFAX membership to reassure yourself of cars' histories (I know it's not 100% accurate but they catch most issues).

I see you are looking on CL, are you set on buying from a private owner or leaning more towards a dealership? Have you checked out cars.com and kbb.com? Their search engines for used cars are useful and you can customize searches easily.

Oh and 2006 MT Z's with Up-Rev engines are notorious for burning oil but I've also seen 2006 owners swear by their Z's so idk... imo you shouldn't buy 2006.

That's not a bad idea I may have to try that. I am definitely looking in the very near future.

I'm not decided one way or another, but I'd personally like to buy from a private owner just so I know where the car is coming from and who had her before me to make myself more comfortable with the buy. Thanks for the tips

I would suggest get carfax for a month and run all the cars you like. I'd stay away from modded cars and also just ensure it's in good condition.

The 2006 generally burn oil it really could be a small amount but still I woulxnt want that. I own a 2004.5 and love it.

I've found a 2008 base model for 14,800. It's got 87,000 miles, the passenger seat is damaged, 6spd, and a custom true dual(which wasn't named and seems iffy). Seem like a decent deal?

^^Thats a pretty good deal, black too

Thats so weird that insurance would total your car based on a messed up door and dash. Seriously, how much does it cost to replace the entire door/dash? Either that or your z must have been in trash condition with super high miles. Only way I can think replacing a door would exceed the value of your z.

You think so? I'm really feelin this one, gonna have to replace the seat and do servicing soon wonder if I should try to bring it down a little or that's a solid deal already.

My z was in fine condition, the work would have cost about 6 grand and they had a 5k salvage bid so it came to about the same as what my payoff was.

That seems like a nice z. I would ask for service records. Also test drive and see if any gears grind. That's a hell of a deal for the price. Check carfax and make sure the title is clean for that price I'm unsure.

Sounds like it could be a knock off setup, probly eBay and those are horrible quality.

I searched high and low for a Z before I bought my 2006 Touring Roadster 6MT. Yes, some of the '06s burn oil and some do not. Mine doesn't burn oil.

I recommend CarMax. They have a lot of them and are fair with the prices. Just double check the trim. My Z was advertised as a Grand Touring and it's a Touring. Good luck...

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the help and comments, I just put a deposit on a SMB 2007 Touring. Test drove it today fell in love so hard. Really hoping everything works out with the insurance payout and gap claim so I get approved for this.
