My horrible Friday the 13th drama
I had to share this story with everyone, call it something I need to share.
First let me start with my backround. I've been surfing this board for about 5 months, ordered my car on March 28th, Got my order number for a July production and a sept delievery, got my vin number, got my delivery date.
The problem started when I needed to sell my car (a 2000 eclipse) before I could take delivery of the car. So as soon as I heard the Z was comming in I started to sell my car, which became a lot more difficult then I thought. So the car comes in and I say "hey, i need to sell my car first, then i can take the car can you hold it for a week or two" they say "sure" thinking whatever. The car arrived on Sept 5. and I got a call on the 6th. So 6 days go by, making it Wed. Sept 11. (great start) and the dealer basically says "Take it or leave it". I'm freaking out because I still have my car and they are being dicks about holding it. So I go in on thrusday and make all the arrangments for a good trade in and figure payements etc. But it's all going to come down to a phone call from a client. If this phone call is a "Yes" then everything money wise will be grand, if he says "No" then I'm up the creek.
So begins Friday the 13th. A 7:30am wake up to find out that I have to go and drive my father to a dealership to pick his vette up from the shop, then to my piano lession to play depressing music just to go home and check my email to see a whopping "no" from my client. In that brief moment everything started to go downhill. So a few hours goes by, I try to talk the client down and nothing is going to happen. So I'm about as pissed/depressed as you could get. I call my girlfriend and say "It's time to give it up." She's about as upset for me as I was for myself. I drive to the dealership angry and pissed because things have just gone stright south for me in the past 5 days to lead up to this point. A car I've been waiting for and nothing is going right. The dealership is about 7 miles from my house so I'm traveling along depressed and upset and I hear a strange sound. I look out and don't see anything, my girlfriend hear's a hissing sound from my back tire. I don't notice any change in the driving. So we pull into the dealership to see my Z with a sticker in the window with a "Sold to " & my name in the window. I get out of the car and see that I have a tire leeking air pressure VERY fast. Greaaaat, I'm staring at the car of my dreams that i can no longer have and my current car has a flat tire. I go inside and tell my salemen I can't take delivery, he wasn't happy. Neither was I, but then I realized I need to get the spare on my car. He happiliy points me towards the service department to get a nicer jack and proceeds to begin calling potential buyers on the car I just passed up.
So here I am, fixing a flat tire @ a Nissan dealership, depressed and angry with a room full of salesment trying to sell the car that still has my name in the window. By the time I am done there is a crowd around my car and already someone has come to look @ it. Nothing in my life has been so secretly so humiliating. People sitting in it, playing with it, and wanting to drive it and there is nothing I can do. So I slap the spare on, take a few digital picts, suck it up,and go on my way. Stopping @ my tire place to get a used tire thrown on the car. All of this to find out that the dealership will probably sell the car in under 5 hours.
To all you Z owners, I got a chance to put 4 miles on the car and it won't be an experience I will soon forget. I hope to maybe find another make/model for what I'm looking for soon, but as winter approaches I'll be less and less likely to find it or in that case be able to take it. Sharing in the waiting process and waiting for picts and order info with all of you has been a wonderfull time. I envy some and I relate to others. I have lost my Z so I ask you to enjoy yours for me. This has been the worst Friday the 13th of my life. I'm 21 years old and have been working my *** off just for things to fall apart in the last minute. I'm not trying to get pity, I'm just trying to spread the word that for every Z owner out there are 5 Z potential owners that for one reason of another couldn't be in your shoes. Take care of your cars and share the experiences. Again it has been a please to read/post with all of you.
Wish me luck in the future and if anyone happens to see a Super Black 5AT Touring with Aero/Nav please feel free to let me know (that's only if it's not going for 5k over sticker).
Again take care all and godspeed to you and your Z's.

Your story suddenly makes my Z just being late seem much less important to me...
I remember when I was 21, I lusted after the new 300ZX, but I couldn't even dream of affording a new Z at that time. I had to get by on used, broken 240's that I nursed back to health.
You should be proud of yourself for even being close, and another Z will come up for you in a few months at most. Personally, I had to wait a dozen more years before I could get the new Z!

There are far worse things that can happen. For example, a million people die every day. I'm glad we only have such problems!
Did you notice how hard it is to sell a Mitsubishi when the dealerships are just giving them away? How long is that stupid 0%/one year thing going to last?

Very sorry to hear what you have experienced. It's enough to make any true enthusiast weep.
Perhaps this is a sign from the Man above that there's a better deal out there for you or you may need the money for something else.
Things will come around eventually.

Perhaps i should say something to comfort you, i remember there's a quote in chinese, " when u get to the worest point of unluckiness, your luck will come by."
or in another meaning: The end of the unluckiness; the start of the luckiness.
ah damn, hope it makes sense to you, it's hard to translate chinese quote into english and it looks sorta awkward..........

Michael,
Sorry to hear things didn't work out. I was looking forward to you joining our little group of Chicago Z owners. Don't hesitate to stop by my house again if you want to come play with the car.

So sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'm sure there aren't many words that can make you feel better. I think you handled yourself very well in that situation. Sounds like you have a great girlfriend who understands your loss. Keep your head up.

hey michael
sounds like quite the adventure, sorry it turned out the way it did. Z will be around for many generations, so ur time will come.
just when u think its dark and gloomy, someone will step up to buy ur car, and a Z in your color and options will become available at MSRP
it can happen!
when u r ready, see victor at mid city nissan, he will do right by u
had an incident with a chicago police offier the other day, he stops me at lasalle and kinzie, near my place,
officer: "sir we are going to have to confiscate your vehicle"
me: " why"
officer: "its just too dam hot"
made me laugh. it will happen to u also!

I have to say all of you guys rock, thanx for all the support. After a few days of getting it out of my system I'm ready for another go.
Here's the question I have for you all. How do I go about guareteeing (to the best of my ability) that in 90 days+ I can find a Black 5AT Charcoal FULLY LOADED Z? I have to work for a new goal because I'm sure as hell not going to let my recent unpleasentness get the best of me.
That Z will be mine, after everything I've been through I'm not about to go and drive a Honda (no offence). So I ask you to give me some guidance on where I can begin. . .
You Z folk ROCK, it was a great thing to see all these messages of support. Especially you Chicagoland folk, I need your help, where's the best dealership to help me find one and not pay $7k over sticker in Dec.

Michael,
As you know I bought from Arlington Nissan and had a decent experience, but from everything I'm hearing Star Nissan in Niles is the way to go. A buddy of mine stopped in there the other day to see if they had any info on the convertible Z. They were very cool to him, took all his info and told him they would stay in touch. He said they had a white Z in the showroom that they were selling for MSRP. Star had a booth at the Chicago event last week where they were giving out free Margaritas, Champaigne and 2001 Press kits. I may end up going there for service if I'm not happy with Arlington.
Hope to see you in a Z soon!

You may have been thrown off your horse, but I'm glad to hear you're going to climb back on it soon. As for your question about which dealerships to look at, I ordered from Continental and they've been pretty good so far (their website even states that they won't sell above or below MSRP). Like Frank said, it sounds like Star is the one that really goes the extra mile. I'll definitely keep my eyes open at the end of the year and let you know if I spot a loaded Black 5AT!
