Default Looking at first Z purchase choices, could use input

Last week my mint 85 mr2 was rear ended while stopped and got totaled so i've been scoping the market for newer dual seaters and have narrowed my options down to two choices. There is a 06 Touring with 42k miles and a 08 Base with 37k miles. The 06 is a about 2k cheaper but i honestly dont know the difference? Which would you choose and why? No major mods but the 08 has black rims and black tinted tail lights. Any input would help thanks

'08 base. No question. They changed just about everything with the motor in '07 and it was wonderful.

Go with the 08. The HR motor is worth the extra 2 grand.

08 is the clear choice out of the two. For $2k more you get the updated VQ35HR engine (06 had a RevUp engine that is known for issues with oil consumption), less mileage, HID headlights/LED taillights, updated aesthetics, etc. etc. etc.

For the 03-05 models many choose them over 07-08 because of the price difference and what they can afford at the time.

Let us know your decision and post up when you bring her home!

Buy the 08, get rid of the black tail lights.

You're good.

Honestly go with what you can afford. Maintenance, insurance, registration, gas, etc, costs a little bit more with this car.

Either one you go with will be a nice. I would go with the 08 because the famed HR motor but like stuart said, go with what you can afford, you will be happy with the end result either way.

I test drove an automatic 2007 before buying my manual 2004 Z. Honestly didn't notice much a difference power wise, but I wasn't pushing it to the max really... Either way they are both fun rides! Let's see some pics of your new purchase.

Had an '05 w/ 55k miles on it for a month before getting rid of it for my '08 w/ 40k miles. Everything about my '08 is better. When you really put your foot into it the HR just feels more solid.

At the end of the day just get a z. Stay away from rev up engines due to possible oil issues. I have a de and love it. The 2007 and up will be more refined and yes have the better motor. Although they do have issues as well clutch slave and something else.

But drive both and make the determination yourself. I drove both and saw no actual difference when driving. I got a 2004.5 because it was $4,000 cheaper..

As most people are saying, the 07-08 motor is better and stronger. I haven't had any issues with my 07, but of course I've done tranny work including the zspeed slave/master cylinder swap already.

But either way, the Z will be a Z and you will love it.
