I actually had a deposit on an sti when it was first released (last may) and was set to take delivery in 3 weeks of a blue/gold. I was soooo hyped about this car. I went to the nissan dealer with my mom to buy her pathfinder, took a look at a z in person and took it for a drive and never looked back!

I'm in ny and this winter hasn't been fun, but I picked up a $2500 wrangler for winter duty so my z can sit there. The added bonus of the wrangler is fun trips to the beach or the boat ramp in the summer with the top and doors off!

I'm not one to buy a car for looks, but girls (and guys) I'm with always comment about how amazing my car is. When my girl and I saw a blue sti at a bar one night, she was telling me how crazy I would be to get it over the z.

Someone on a scooby forum said this (a sti owner no less) and it couldn't be more true: "at last years ny auto show, the z and g35 had gorgeous women staring at it. the sti and evo had 12 yr old gran turismo players"

whatever floats your boat i guess...

sadly there's way too many Zs around. But that's besides the point. the sti with those race tires are useless in the winter. in fact downright dangerous! Since you already have the Z, might as well try snow tires or buy a cheap beater. both are cheaper alternative than losing on depreciation and then buy a brand new STi and still have to buy snows.
I'm a subie fan. but be smart on how you spend your cash.
The Z is a beautiful car. it's a nice car on the road altho the g35c is more gorgeous, but when an STi rolls in, it just OWNs the road. It's repected for not looking pretty but of it's capabilities like the EVO. The STi is not pretty to look at it's downright intimidating! Hah!

While that might be true, again, it all boils down to what you want to buy, numbers only vs. all around excellence (this is my opinion, I do realize the STi is excellent in many areas).

And on a further note, I raced my friend and his STi (with AEM intake) from a roll on 2nd gear (gear was selected on purpose prior to race) at 15mph to ~140mph, and while my front bumper was at his rear at the end, he never blew me away. In fact, throughout each gear it was dead even-he would pull midrange and I would regain up top. He told me he has beaten Z28's and Cobras (don't know what year) easily and that I was the closest race he has had yet.

And before you call BS on the above race, remember that many factors determine the outcome of a race (i.e. driver, stop vs. roll, HP/TQ, tires, weight, slight tolerance in HP/TQ between each car-I've seen as much as 10HP on some cars at the wheels-that's like adding I/E right there, modded vs. stock, etc.).

Again, just buy what you like and do what you want with it.

Same here!

I live around the Kansas City area and I rarely see a 350Z, Evo, or STI. I do see quite a few wrx's though. However, today I spotted 2 350z's and 1 300zx.

What do you guys consider to be a lot when you say, there are too many Z's around? Because I still consider them to be farely rare. I'm sure it depends a lot on where you live. I've heard that in SoCal they are a dime a dozen.

While I do realize we all have different tastes, most would agree that as far as looks are concerned between the Z and STi (or regular WRX-not much difference exterior wise), the Z wins hands down (and my "Dude, you're on crack" statement was not meant as an insult by the way-neither to the car(s) or its driver(s), just my sense of humor).

Personally, i like the Evo a little better than the STi looks wise, and I wouldn't mind having one. But while I've always been a sports car enthusiast, I've never bought a car for the numbers that it put out. I buy my sports cars based on looks (how attractive it is to me), interior design/features (from base to fully loaded), handling, braking and performance. And these factors of mine are about equal to each other. Reason being is that these are the factors that will ultimately determine how I feel being behind the wheel. The car that gives me the most pleasure and enjoyment (that sounded kinda dirty) that I can afford wins. That's it. Hell, the color's actually the hardest choice for me.

Bottom line, who gives a **** what other people say anyway? It's your a$$ that's going to be in the driver's seat for miles and miles of driving pleasure-whether it be getting pushed into the seat (sports car), riding on clouds type of ride (luxury), or four feet off the ground (Truck/SUV), etc. Just buy what you like and go with it...personalize it, modd it, keep it stock...just have fun. That's why we have clubs and forums.
i agree i'm just saying that an sti in the right color (and maybe with tinted windows) still looks really good to me. but the z is beautiful.

IF I had to have just one car it would be a Subaru. I love my WRX so much I COULDN't let it go. The benefits of trading up to an STI did not meet the cost to me, but the STI is incredible.

Good luck

I don't understand the snow=terror with RWD at all. All you have to do is buy all season or snow tires and stay out of drifts/drive slow. AWD is great, but its not the only answer in the automotive world for snow. EVERYBODY drives slow in the snow or you have accidents, if you are driving the Z like its summer, you will have accidents. You can have just as many with AWD OR FWD if you try to drive fast.

Its not the end of the world to drive a RWD car in winter; if you get tons of snow like Buffalo, NY, get snow tires; if you get occasional snow in the winter, get all season tires and put chains on it for a blizzard. If you just want another car, buy it. Don't use RWD as an excuse.

I have a G coupe that I drive nearly 3000 miles monthly. I put Pilot snows on and it drives/handles well. I drive it from Illinois to Kansas to Iowa to Missouri to Texas to Florida to... anywhere. My only problem is ground clearance. In all honesty, a FWD car is better than all-wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. We have a pilot, camry and had a Jeep. For the snow, the camry rocks. But I prefer driving the G!

Don't sell the Z. Simply buy a set of wheels with snows!
