Default I press TCS button and turns off VDC ?????

so i recently purchased and 03 350z. i absolutely love the car and always cant wait till i have an excuse to drive it. Anyways after reading the forums and my prior knowledge of the z it should be an enthusiast because of the cruise control on the steering wheel and the tcs button under the steering wheel. so yesterday i went to go turn off tcs so i can go faster because of the whole fuel cut and brakes thing. so when i pressed the button it showed up VDC off???? is this normal or do you think the prev. owner replaced the buttons. i looked at the manual and it says if you have TCS button then it should show TCS off but maybe i read it wrong. please help so i dont got making a VDC switch. i will be drifting this car as well.

Thanks and God Bless

Do you have heated leather seats?

Either you have a touring or you have the gauge cluster out of a touring.n

Previous owner may have switched the buttons or swapped gauges with one that had TCS instead of VDC.

edit. Crap, wrong quote. Yes, you should only have vdc. I have an 03 touring as well and that is all I have.

My 2003 Touring came with TCS.I do not believe VDC came on the Touring. It
may could have been ordered as an option...?
I think the owner swapped buttons or the gauge panel(correct miles?).

It may have been an option, but mine does have VDC and the gauge shows VDC off.

Performance, Track, and Touring came with VDC only. Everything lower came with TCS (except Base which had neither).

TCS only works on fuel lines and rear wheels.

VDC works on fuel lines, and brakes of all 4 wheels.

They are almost identical systems. If you have VDC and turn it off, you are essentially turning off TCS as well.

Touring models equipped with automatic transmissions did not have VDC. They were only equipped with traction control.

I assumed from his signature JWT was referring to a clutch, but it appears to refer to a pop charger instead.

No my seats are cloth and not heat controls. So I guess I have touring. I think the previous owner switched the buttons. No big deal so based on my readings if I turn off vdc and try drifting it, it will cut back on correct ? I was trying to find an instruction thread for a vdc switch but can't find one with pics.
When I make the switch do I just turn the switch on or do I turn off vdc and turn on the switch
Thanks for the comments I want all the help I can get

Touring came with leather heated seats...

Just press the button. If it says VDC/TCS Off, it's off.

Okay thanks guys so when I turn off the vdc it stays off. I would try it but I have no where to go drift plus I'm really against drifting on the streets. On the track only, lame I know but better safe than sorry

To an extent, yes. I've read debates if it is ever fully "off"

And how is that lame? We always rip on people for trying dumb sh*t in the streets. Keep it on the track.

Isn't it kinda like the Mercedes system? Even when you turn it off it still can apply the brakes or cut throttle to keep you from spinning.

You can still spin with VDC "off" so I'm not entirely sure how hard/far you'd have to throw your car to have it cut in.

I believe the system is never fully off and if it detects to much yaw "body roll" it will still kick in. Yes you can drift but if the system thinks the car is starting to roll it will tap the brakes.

I could be wrong but that's how I understand it to work.
