Goodbye z
Well the motor in my wife's car went out, so it looks like I am trading the z. I have an 03 base with almost 120k miles, no mods except exhaust. I found an 05 acura tl with nav, leather, everything, it has about 115k miles. We have a 1 yr old and she cant really drive my diesel so unfortunately the z has to go. I am going to miss the power, rear wheel drive, and def 6mt. What's everybody's thoughts on my car +2k cash for his car? All cash and paperwork is going through my bank.
I can't really believe that your motor just "went out". I mean, where did it go? Did it have a reservation somewhere that you didn't know about, and I'm being facetious. But, seriously, if the engine is locked, yeah, goodbye. If you weren't using a full synthetic every 5k miles or so and good, premium gas, you probably have a lot of build up in the engine. It's a great car to have, and to be honest, if you can fix it, keep it. It's one of those cars that you'll kick yourself for getting rid of in 20 years, whether you're divorced or not. My Dad had a 1970 Pontiac Firebird that he misses every day. He got rid of it because my mom wanted a sedan because they had kids. Now they're divorced, and he wants it back. The moral of the story is that it's a terrible idea to get rid of your car for a woman. She's resilient, and I assume, reasonably intelligent, and has dealt with a diesel thus far. She can adapt, and if you're going to swap your Z for a grocery-getter like a TL (that's wrong wheel drive, mind you); I'll happily provide you with my address and postage so you can mail me your man card.

OP you are being very responsible, especially since you have a young child. I would really consider everything before actually doing it. Is there a way you can get the wife a car and keep your Z? Are you set on the TL or are you also looking at other cars?
IMO if you want a reliable car for your wife, get a newer car for her. You dont have to break the bank, but just remember she will be getting a 9 year old car. Unfortunately things break on cars alot at that time. That is my opinion.
No matter what, good luck!

I wouldn't say that going to a tl with 115k would be good. Lets face it over 100k most cars need some work. If you're strapped for cash then it will have to due.
When I buy cars I always buy with low miles but I keep my cars for a long amount of time. I've heard mixed reviews about the tl sometimes there can be issues with the transmission. Just make sure the car is 100% good and will pass inspection etc.

You sure you want to step into a high mileage car? Especially an Acura TL that is notorious for their transmissions "going out" even more so at higher mileage? This does not look like a smart decision man. I strongly recommend looking at a different car. If you like the TL that much, I suggest getting one with way lower mileage than that. But that's if you REALLY LIKE THE TL THAT MUCH that your willing to take on the risk of the transmission going kaput and you end up in more of a financial burden. Ifyour strapped for cash just get something that is cheap and easy to maintain like a Toyota Camry SE. Who cares if it's not a luxury car or a sports car, you don't have nobody to impress or anything. Or better yet, just get your wife a older reliable bucket car like maybe a late 90s early 2000s with decent mileage so you can keep your Z. Either way, it's stories like this is why i'm glad I don't have any kids I know of or married yet. Too much things you have to sacrifice. "knocks on wood".

I hope your Daddy can afford to continue paying for YOUR car and get another Pontiac too.
You obviously have a great deal of growing up to do. Btw, that postage address you mentioned- is that YOUR home address or should you check with whichever parent you live with before they receive a "man card" from a person trying to provide for their family and not some unworthy teen who got a pony for their sweet sixteen.
OP, you can always get another Z down the road- could be a cool project for you and your child when he/she gets older!!!

OP, sorry for the loss. I hope you are able to pick up another one in the future. Maybe an HR
If you want a safe and reliable car, look at volvos. You can get the s40 or s60 around the same year as the Z with the same mileage for 3-5k. They're reliable but if something does go up with them, they're expensive.

How old are you? 16? Life happens and sometimes you have to make choices; it's sad if you let a car run yours.
I'd keep my "man card" and happily trade my car for a minivan anyday if it's what my "woman" wanted, at least I'm getting laid. Can the same be said for you, pimples? FYI - your hand doesn't count.

No way dude. OP don't listen to this guy, he's trying to fck up your financials lol. Get something cheap, reliable and easy to maintain so you can stack more skrilla for a GTR when the kid goes to college in the future. A toyota camry se is the sensible decision here. An older european car will cost a lot of money to fix versus a mass produced reliable japanese econo car. Think about things in the long term man. At the end of the day your the one that's going to be taking a hit so you might as well take the necessary steps to soften the blow.

I remember when the 350 came out in 72/73 and all the young bucks just had to have one. They took on high interest loans and high insurance so they could be cool. Two years later you could find as many used ones as new ones due to the youngsters deciding being broke and living in mom's basement suddenly wasn't worth having the latest cool car. Now we still have TaliKillers telling us that having that cool car is better than having a woman, this from a guy whose reading comprehension is highly suspect and thinks he is Dear Abby besides, with morals for his story no less and telling a married guy with a none year child to turn in his man card? Really??? My god, what a tool. OP - I know of a few TL's with that kind of mileage that have been pretty much problem free. But as said, check the pricing guides - I know my '03 with 147,000 isn't worth much to anyone but me but I bought it to drive it until it drops - it's my daily driver and come spring will ideally have a built 300 TT for my fun car now that my kids are through college and business is good. Good luck with whatever you end up, and enjoy that one year old - 20 years from now you'll be wondering where the time went lol.
