I just got a 350Z Roadster a week ago and i've only put about 100 miles on it, but I was just curious about how to break in the engine exactly...like staying below certain RPMs, miles, etc? and for how long, anways I love the car I just don't want to over do it.

check your owner's manual. basically, try to stay below 80mph, don't drive at the same speed(very your RPM) range, go light on the gas pedal, and do that for about 1,000 miles. then get an oil change and you car is properly broken into. although, some will argue that the engine is already broken into at the factory.

 

well put, the exact number the owners manual says is 4000RPMs.

oh and no towing, so go ahead and unhitch that trailer that we know you got loaded up.

agreed, seems there is a new thread every week asking about break-in procedures.

some people say break it in like its gonna be driven (hard), others say take it easy. personally i go the drive it hard route....but different people will give different answers. but as long as the motor was built well and to the proper specifications, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference as long as the engine gets sufficient lubrication while each part wears, or "eats" the parts around it for the clearances they need (aka "seating in"). this is why its crucial to do your first oil change after the first 700-1000 miles, you want to get all the metal shavings out of there so the seated parts (piston rings, valves, springs, etc.) can get fresh oil without any trash.
