Default 914 vs Z pics

My friend took me out on a little drive today though the countryside.. wowsers.. We took a 50 mile loop around Southern Portland. Just as we got started outside of town we must have missed the "test your cars cornering skills" sign because every car that came by use the other direction was going mach 2. A brand new Audi was in a full power slide around one corner. I was amazed at the 914's cornering abilities. His 914 is 1000 lbs lighter and has 200 hp less than the Z.

He was in the lead since I didn't have a clue where I was going. Several times we ran into traffic (yes it was a neon. Why are they always neons?) but we managed to nudge them off the road. I'm still in my break in phase so I wasn't able to push it the car but I can tell you the car didn't make a single squeal the whole time. I was waiting for the front tires to start chirping but they were silent and just ate up the road. The "slip" light only came on once during the drive. This is my first fast car so it is nice to have a little safety net.

Once cool thing I discovered was the nav systems ability to help me judge how fast to go. I was able to look down at the screen and see a 180 degree corner coming up.

I can with for AutoX next year!

Hehehe..If I recalled correctly, and please correct me if I am wrong, the 914 was Porsche's attempt at building an affordable car. It actually had a VW engine!

Don't know the background on the 914 but its like a go-cart. You actually sit below the door sills in the car. Its kind of scary cruising on the freeway when your eye level with peoples tires. It does have a VW engine in it but he wants to do a 911 6 cyl conversion on it. Its a fun little car.

Yup, if set up right, they're monsters around the track. Tight as hell around corners and fast as &*^%. Especially with the older model 911's 6 cyl put it .

Default nice 914

I believe the 914 is basically a vw karmann ghia with modifed supspension and a porsche body and interior.

I was checking these out back in the early 70's they started out about $4500 and topped out at about $5800 with the deluxe chrome bumpers etc. I passed on it and bought a new 71 Mach I mustang, with a 351 cleveland for under $3500.00. Prices have changer over the years

Also passed on a datsun 240z for about the same price
